I know I'm double posting here and in the 'cars you didn't know existed' thread in GG, but this is a giggle.

What is the smaller car? It looks like a shrunken Aston Martin DB2 wink

It's a 1950 Nardi 750 with bodywork by Allemano. smile

Better picture:

I think the inspiration for its lines comes from the Cisitalia 202 of 1947.

Oh yes, I particularly like that one. There's an A110 at the storage facility I use and every time I see it I want to pick it up, slip it under my jacket and take it home. Incredible, jewel-like thing.

Holy cow, is that a Mazda REPU ^^^ ? Now, there's a rare beast!

and in a similar vein, I can play this game in-house... although arguably neither of mine are classics... or both are. Anyway, the newer one is nearest the camera (in case you needed telling, lol), and although there's actually only eight manufacturing years between them -'85 and '93 - the blue one was very firmly a Seventies design and the red one was the Japanese getting ahead of the game and looking toward the new Millennium!

Again though, the size difference has been distorted to a degree by the fact that one car is closer to the camera than the other.

MK1 Mazda RX7 Dimensions:

Wheelbase: 2,420 mm
Length: 4,285 mm
Width: 1,675 mm
Height: 1,260 mm

MK6 Mazda RX7 dimensions:

Wheelbase: 2,425 mm
Length: 4,285 mm
Width: 1,760 mm
Height: 1,230 mm

So the only real difference between the two cars is that the newer car is 85mm wider.

Okay, that's over 3 inches wider which is a fair amount, but it's hardly "dwarfing" the old car based on those statistics.

That's 1920's, 1930's, 1950's, 1970's and 2000's - not as much difference as you would have thought, with perspective (and shabby parking!) taken into account.
I suspect that the thing here is that limos for the 'well heeled' will always have been quite large and so less need/ability for them to grow over the years

Indeed. Cars in which both the driver and the passengers are expected to be wearing hats have always been fairly generously cut.

It is at the small-car end of things, and the sports cars, that the bloat has been most marked.

Don't get the Father Ted thing?

I thought it was an interesting photo but clearly it isn't. Never mind, 3 inches can make a massive difference... I'll avoid the obvious ask yer mum joke
