That was vey Italian of your HPE. It had to get up slowly, have an espresso or two, maybe nibble on a pastry, and read the sports pages before it would contemplate doing any actual work. Starting at 10 would be OK, because then it could plan on an aperitivo at about 1230 and lunch at from 1 until 3, followed by a snooze, maybe a tiny bit more work, a stroll, and then the dinner aperitivo. I love all things Italian!

My Lancia is showing too much of a northern Protestant work ethic. I shall tell it to straighten up and fly right.

Yes exactly!

It was so bad/predictable that when we stayed on the Isle of Wight (regularly) I would book a late ferry on the way home. One time I couldn't get one and we missed it 'cos she wouldn't start 'till 10!

Lottery garage would have an HPE VX.

I bought a one owner, low mileage 1980 Beta Spyder in 1984. It looked lovely but was the worst car I have ever owned and brought enormous sadness into my life. I ended up part exing it and taking a huge hit.

Mine is still misbehaving by starting first time, even early on mega-freezy mornings. Today, a helpful neighbour called around to tell me that the top was down and the windows open. Of course they were. Have some people never seen a convertible?
