That`s a interesting article cdodgyd but it doesn`t mention the 711F ? Which I think was put in the London /Mexico World Cup Escorts .They will bore out to 1840cc Don`t know how rare these blocks are but have just lifted the engine out of my +2 to do a rebuild and found its a 711F Like you say probably Cortinas and Escorts out there with exotic blocks that the owner noes nothing about.

This one hasn't moved in 10 years at least. I've tried to buy it, but the owner is so rich he doesn't care and it just sits there. Sad. Full race cage, fully racing prepared too.

Guess the price keeps going up, so the owner feels that the car is working perfectly, just the way he wants it.
Sad

Agreed, and I wouldn't do it, but if the main point is entry to some kind of club, this'll do the job. Also, while I think Strombergs should be eradicated, SUs will fit.

Best,

Shame, it has no bumper. Not worth much unless complete.'Boy racers' live and learn.

No "boy racer" this one. He races two Lolas and a Maser AC6 for fun, and raced this car in the day. He keeps it for the memories. I mean, do you normally keep the bumpers on a race car? And there was I thinking of "adding lightness".

It's international 'revive an old forum thread' day.

I've just bought a Europa project with no engine. It's a new Spyder chassis and body and a pile of bits. No engine though. It's a twin cam on the logbook.

I was considering going 2.0 Zetec on twin 45s for power, reliability, cost, etc. I could go ITBs but I feel like it's too much modernity for the car. I also have a pair of good 45s kicking around that I took off a rally car I stripped.

However, I've seen a few twin cams for sale for what seemed like sensible money - £1-2k, so I'm thinking of going for the original route.

Other than the obvious things of an engine turning over and feeling like it has compression, and not having any major signs of leakage what are the key things to look for?

e.g. Does anyone know:

There's a limit to how much the head can be skimmed - what's the original height to measure, and what's the limit.
What block / head casting numbers should I be looking for?

Are there any hard to find parts that I need to try and get with the engine - e.g. distributor, flywheel, etc.

I've been told that a Zetec and Twink have similar mounting points, but I don't know how reliable that is. Can anyone comment if they have some knowledge on this?
