Good work thumbup

I would consider an aux heater. I use a little ceramic 12v fan heater off the cigarette lighter, great for warming up quickly and getting ice off the windows.

If you do want to be competitive you'll need a better m/km measuring system than you already have smile Brantz, Halda, Tripmaster etc. As long as it doesn't give an average speed rating then it is ok. I use a Brantz International 2. It is not pretty but is probably the best for the money (around €220).

Also consider interior lighting for the navigator that does not affect the driver. Lots of LeJog is run in the dark. Have a google search for 'don barrow potti' and you'll see some ideas.

Think about tyres too. Is the Talbot front or rear drive? Nearly everyone will be on full Alpine winter tyres. I run Yokohama W.Drive on the Porsche, 195/65/15. Chains will be way too slow to use properly and remain competitive.

Lots of other stuff to prepare too. Feel free to message me through Pistonheads if you want to talk. I'm about to start the full rally prep of the 944 next week, can't wait to get started!

I love it when there are different cars entered, I get bored of looking at 911s and Escorts all the time.
You´re right; its boring to have the rear mirrors filled with those 911 and Escorts somewhere in the far distance smile

A Terratrip 202 is already here, we just didn't install it yet because we didn't decide which car to actually use. It's an easy fit since there is already a tachometer sensor built into the cars for the factory trip computer.

We are in southern Bavaria with the alps in front of the door, so we have snow tires on the cars anyway.

Extra fog lights (original Talbot) are already fitted.

Good tip on reading lights for the copilot!

I was going to say something daft about the "extra ground clearence/easy service modification" you've done, but I am really enjoying the thread. Its great to see a car like this (now so rare) and great to read about mods needed for road rallying. Have you altered the drivetrain/suspension at all?

I'd get a decent sump guard made up and fitted.

I saw a metallic green one a few weeks ago in Romania. A car I hadn't thought of for years. I always like the look of them, the front was very striking.

This one has been for sale since ever at various prices. 15000€ is ridiculous.

It was 10000€ a few weeks ago:

It s not even a real SX, it has a 4 cylinder engine.

If you want to spend some real money, go to the Netherlands and get yourself a Diesel:

at that price, they could have found a second yellow bulb no?

Agreed. Plus some decent protection for anything else slung underneath - starter etc.

How are the top mounts and suspension in general? LeJog is tough on cars who hope to take some honors.

Yeah, we keep these ramps attached, just need to fit the wheels from my office chair (don't tell my boss!) and we are ready to go.

Actually the car has pretty decent ground clearance, its a saloon after all and lowering cars was not yet in fashion back then. The engine sits rather high up, we would first have to rip off that giant plastic bumper before the oil pan gets touched wink. No plans to modify anything.

Preparation will more focus on filling the trunk with about every part that can be unscrewed form the other Tagoras we have, carb, ignition, alternator... the trunk is huge! If something fails, we just swap it out then ;-) .

Have a look at the engine compartment, everything is on top of the engine, even the starter is high up behind the carb, only the alternator is fitted to the side.

Suspension etc is all taken directly from the Peugeot 504, that's rock solid. I spent 20 years in West Africa driving nothing but 504's , trust me, no European road can brake this no matter how you drive.

By the way we decided today to use the blue GLS for LeJog. The SX is too complicated and difficult to work on on the roadside.

Excellent, sounds like the right car for the job. As you say it does look like most of the important bits are tucked away nicely.

Make sure you stick a couple of inner tubes in the boot, preferably the good quality Michelin ones at €20 each.

I know you probably run tubeless tyres but we had 4 punctures in the DS on the last HERO rally and we only carried 2 spare wheels. The tubes can get you out of the bother pretty easily and quickly.

I'm taking 2 spare wheels and 2 tubes in the Porsche for LeJog.

Good point taken! How about fuel, a there enough (open) stations? Need for a smelly 20L Jerrycan in the trunk or on the backseats? Tagora has a 60L tank and road consumption is around 10L/100km, a bit more off road of course. So even in the worst case we have at least 400km autonomy, enough?

Yes, that will be fine.

Every car will be carrying at least a 5l petrol can, it depends on how much space you have (I know you have lots!)

I think the longest stretch without petrol is around 125 miles / 190km.

Good, so the 7L "spare wheel can" i bought last year for the 504 family trip to Iceland will do wink
This one takes no space, the Tagora spare wheel is under the trunk, just as on the 504.

Mercedes and BMW sold these. They are made by a company "Bellino", you find them on ebay Germany with some patience for 40€ to 50€. Check the size, the larger ones (9L) fit into a 15" wheel only, the 6 and 7l fit into a 14".
