In 1969 I was a passenger in a Tiger that went around the south circular in super quick time. At the time I think it was the fastest car I had been in.

Has this been done before? if it has, maybe you can find some inspiration in build threads / contacts with people who've already taken on this challenge.

If this takes off, please keep us posted!

Thanks, that might be useful.

I'm thinking....this is not heading for originality or provenance...buy a series 4 Alpine in reasonable shape.

Start by repairing the lower body as required, then convert to Tiger with a V8, maybe a more modern ali block job with twin cam heads and EFI, plus some better running gear.

Ship it off to a coach builder, like Rod Jolley, get it back. Fit it up. Paint it. Trim it,

What's a one off rear body like that going to cost?

Looks like the 3 that were built were 7734KV, ADU179B and ADU180B.

Do they still all exist?

Yes they do, had a chat with the owner/driver of 179 at the Revival last week. The development they have had to put in to it has been pretty epic.

Doubt if there would be enough room for the heads of the 4.6 3 valve late model engine if that is being suggested - this is bigger than the biggest 385 series big block engine. Small block 302 based Windsor engine will be capable of providing all the power needed, whether normally aspirated or 'huffed', and cooking 200 hp or 1000hp+ - will look forward to seeing the build.

It seems the bodies were built by Williams and Pritchard.

Lister Cars have nothing in their records for the Tigers.

I'd like to get into contact with a Tim Saunders who created an informative website on W and P if anyone has an email address.

Does anyone know the source of the windscreen?

My friend Roger had one of the 3 back in the early '70's. I forget which one but I believe it's in the USA now. He changed the cylinder heads on it and gave me the old ones which I fitted to my Tiger NAN 340D. I believe it still has these big valve heads on it.

my old bosses wife had a Sunbeam Tiger, bought brand new (she p/x'd a 997 Downton tuned Cooper for it)

she owned it for years, and loved it but the body started to get a bit tired, so she would only ever open one door at a time - one sunday morning she was washing it with both doors open, when the phone rang, so went to answer it, talked for ages and when she came back outside the body had sagged so much that neither door would shut.....

they put a rope on it and dragged it down to the local scrapyard - she was gutted - she always said it was the best car she had ever had.

to make up for demise of the Tiger my old boss had to buy her a XR2, when it was delivered it was the new MK2 shape, which she didn't want, so it was returned to the dealers and they hunted down an unregistered MK1, so she ended up with a very late (possibly the last ever) registered MK1 XR2.

when I was young I was always trying to buy the XR2 from her as it was mint - sadly, once she got to old to drive and it was offered to me it was in the same state as the tiger must have been - in those days an old rotten XR2 was worth nothing, so it followed the Tiger to the dump.....

its funny, 20 years later I can still here my boss going on about what a great car that Tiger was.....

Great stories about Tigers.

Strikes me I have made an assumption which maybe incorrect, perhaps its windscreen is the standard Alpine/Tiger one raked at a lower angle.

ETA - screen is different.

I'd not be surprised if it wasn't a rear 'screen out of something.

Early 1970's, I was at Charles Trevelyan Tech College in Newcastle and at lunch time I used to wander around the car dealer lots around Westmoreland Road.
There was a white Tiger in there one day, a 260, went for a look, saleman came over and tried to sell me it.
I had an MG Midget at the time and a Tiger was well out of reach even at the few hundred pounds he was asking. If only .....
Years late I was friends with Tony Eckford at Tynemouth Motor Club, who had a couple of Tigers including one he rallied.
Wonder where he is now?

There is a 50-years of Sunbeam Tiger in competition anniversary run to Cannes in late August.
Around 50 Tigers are doing the run.
I am fortunate to be going with my great friend who is shipping his Tiger from Los Angeles for the event.
Should be a great week.

Hi All, I'm a new member and came across this post. I've been working on and off on a Tiger Le Mans coupe for the past 7 years. My resolution is to complete the chassis this year (the hard part). Everything is pretty much done for the frame and body but now I'm working on the fast back roof. I want to start with a windshield that is close the the 60 degree rake of the 3 original cars. I'm thinking Opel GT or Opel Kadett. I've looked at TR7, 240/260Z, Mazda Miata but they just are not right. I'm trying not to have to cut down a windshield and hoping I can find the right windshield so I can adapt the frame as well.Attached are a couple of pictures of progress. If I get the right windshield the rest will be butter. I'm a sheet metal sculptor so I can make the rest of the roof as needed. I'm thinking the other glass pieces I'll need, I'll just go with custom cut flat laminated safety glass. Any ideas or thoughts let me know. I will keep posted on progress.

Nice work thus far.

Is that (hopefully) an Alpine donor or a Tiger?

Do you have access to a Lister Tiger for the required dimensions?

What powerplant/gearbox/rear end are planning on using?
