Enough with this defeatist nonsense. There's every chance it will work again perfectly correctly. Admittedly he'll have to replace nearly every component with a new one but that's part of the heroism.
It will be cheaper to buy all the new (second hand but in better condition) components already fitted together. I would suggest cutting out the chassis number from the 928 and fitting it to the set of new components that are already fitted together. Then maybe paint the set of new components already fitted together metallic blue. Much less expense and work. wink

Well here, laid bare, is the schism at the heart of the classic car movement. Obviously it's cheaper just to go out and buy one – but where's the fun in that?

Hi, to the OP,

My first post here, joined to offer some help as I have a 928 too.

There are a couple of vendors and forums that I have found very helpful. I am not related to the vendors, other than as a satisfied customer, and I am a member of the forum. I hope posting these does not breach forum rules.

Vendors:
928 International, largest 928 breaker in the US, currently having a 50% of sale on second hand parts. This finishes on 23rd of December.
928sRUs, Roger Tyson, ex-pat Briton in Texas, understands that 928s come in right hand drive too, very good prices for new spares. I get most of my items from here, even though I am in Australia

Forum:
Rennlist, 928 forum. I have found this is the best for 928 content. Check out the new poster section at the top of the forum for many useful links and tips. You may already be on here, but I have not seen you post.

Keep up the good work. These cars are too good to part out unless there is structural damage.

Regards,

Jed

And JDY's post sums up one of the best things about tinkering with 928 porsches....their owners!!!! none of the preciousness of the air cooled brigade, and always always happy to talk about their cars and fixing them. Thanks JDY for your input, I am expecting a Christmas box from Roger that's just been sent....very excited to be receiving new gaskets and intake refresh stuff!!! Sad i know!

Well, spent Christmas trying to sort out the list of parts needed for the intake refresh with limited success, subtle changes from the 78~79 cars and lack of a specific 1980 parts list have made it rather difficult to bottom exactly what is needed.

Further distractions in the shape of my sister's VW T25 camper having a respray and being roped into that have taken my eye off cracking on with the Porsche, and then disaster struck, the gent who's workshop I "squat" in has advised me that he will not be renewing the lease at the end of March.

I have no other indoor facility and there is no way that I am going to be able to get the car into a position where it can be left outdoors before then, so unfortunately I am going to have to move this one on.

I'm thinking maybe a track day car as it is a 1980, non sunroof manual car, and I am told these criteria match the requirements?

So, thank you for all your support, I will not be short of things to so, as my Mark 1 MX5 requires a suspension refresh, and lets hope the next project I buy doesn't result in a general sharp intake of breath from the PH collective!!! wink

Heartbreak. After all that work!?

Sadly, even though you're closer to a nice car now than at the start, you've probably gone backwards in terms of its current value.

I'm gutted about all this. Please do the necessary and keep going!!!

It is a shame OP, but you may have had a lucky escape in the form of a landlord imposed stop-loss! Now it's surely time for another similarly unhinged PHer to step forward and carry on the good work..... hehe

I'd be tempted if I didn't have 2 semi borked Porsches of my own.

Benjii, I have £1495 invested in this car right now, but if a PH'er took it on with the promise of keeping me up to date with her progress I'd let her go for £1200!!
