The 1978 car was a 1286 cc, and from memory they retained the close ratio box from the 1200Ti and 5M - 4.1 final drive? It's odd how you'd see the occasional example that was rot free after 5-10 years when most were teabags.
I never liked the 105 bhp Green Cloverleaf with the 14 inch wheels as much tbh. The 85 bhp 1500 was the best compromise imo b ut the 95 bhp Veloce version really bloody went.
My T reg Ti was actually an early 1350 . It felt a bit gutsier than my mate's 1.3Ti which was indeed 1286cc . Both had the very close ratio , short geared box which so suited the car. My 1984 A reg 1350 Ti had twin Dell'Ortos which sounded great but didn't make it go any quicker really - but difficult to tell as the gearing had been totally ruined by then - criminal overgearing emasculated the whole car. So I bought a Golf GTi ..I never liked the 105 bhp Green Cloverleaf with the 14 inch wheels as much tbh. The 85 bhp 1500 was the best compromise imo b ut the 95 bhp Veloce version really bloody went.
BTW .my early car never had any rust issues and was 5 years old when I sold her

I had two Ti's that age. One was LJO515S, a 1286cc late Series 1, and YYN308T, a lovely (but rusty) Series 2 dark blue 1351 Ti registered Jan 1979 but built December 1978. The 1351 was the 1500 crank in the 1300 block iirc. The Series 1 1300 had an average engine - it had stood for years and had a bit of bore rust so it was a 'breather'. I fitted an engine from a very low mileage 1.3 Arna - I had the carb rejetted and advanced the timing a couple of degrees - it made another 6-7 bhp (!) and absolutely flew. Well, when you're 23, anything is fast but it was still a very lively thing.BTW .my early car never had any rust issues and was 5 years old when I sold her
Best flat four I had was was in a very tatty C plate 33 1.5 Green Cloverleaf that made a proper 115 bhp on a dyno. Second gear synchro was shagged so I fitted a 1.3 Arna gearbox with the 3.89 diff...........in fifth gear that really pulled like a train. 120 mph was about 6500 rpm iirc :-)

The series 2 85bhp ti had the best ratios, my very rusty 1978 s2 1500 ti was the best to drive, the s1 1300ti went well if driven hard. The 1500 twin carb would have been great with the s2 gearbox but I still liked it . The sprint racer is a 1500cc. Big cams, twin 45’s and open ram pipes certainly make it ‘sound’ fast. 😀
I had an original (1186cc) 1976 Ti in 1980. It was amazing to drive despite a few issues but it went rusty before your eyes in places that I'd never seen before like in the A pillars (caused, I think by the roof guttering funneling water into the seam). I remember the rear valance below the bumper looked fine but disentegrated almost completely during a routine hand washing. Fantastic design in so many ways though - such a shame the rust resistance was non existent.

/\ This.My first brand new car was a 1975 Alfasud Ti
It's handling was a revelation!
In those days Alfa only gave you a 6 months warranty,
and iirc my car went back 3 times during that period to sort out (superficially?) its rust problems .
I decided to sell it as soon as the warranty expired.
My sprint in storage at the moment. when it was resprayed a few years ago, we found some of the inside panels were finished in paint, some in primer and some bare metal, most of the rust had started from the self tapping screws they used to attached the zender body kit which has been removed. Just need to put on the ronal A1 wheels on and tidy up interior to finish off.
