Mercedes R107's
Discussion
107 prices are certainly rising - this must be the most expensive and possibly lowest mileage (UK) 500SL ever. Is it possibly the car the SL Shop sold some time ago??

I delivered the Sl Shop car to its new owner in Essex with 903 Miles shown from memory. Looks like the same car and overmats. Price has shot up somewhat!http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C484198
I'm not sure if she heard me properly, but my wife said I can have one. Now to look for one, but it will live outside and be used as my everyday car as I have my double garage full of my S3 and Shadow. I'll just have to walk to the bus-stop when it snows. I've read the buyer's guides in C&SC from a year or so ago and also the Quentin Column in this month's 'Classic Car' mag.

Avoid chrome wheel arch trims, they hide rust.
107s can hide extensive corrosion in the bulkhead and other hard to spot places, so unless you're one of these people get someone very familiar with them to inspect if you want to properly value a car. Some say its best to buy one that needs work so you know what you've got once its done. Even cars bought from well known specialists who charge a premium have been known to harbour expensive defects.

Seen two nice ones in local garage but the chap told me that even when new, they leaked at the front corners of the hood (hard and soft tops) so not suitable for parking outside. The leaks were a design fault he said. Is that right? I can't say I've read that anywhere. To the contrary, the reports I've read say they're watertight.

Indeed, even post `86 cars that were galvanised rot. Feel all carpets for damp, wet in rear is not as bad as front could be. Boot carpet especially the lower bit on the O/side if wet is usually seal but could be rot. Pour a bucket of water through the grilles in front of the windscreen, hopefully the water will not get inside the footwell through the bulkhead. of course check everywhere for rot a popular place is inside spare wheel cover as well. Got a 107 buyers guide somewhere I no longer need as don't work with these cars anymore..107s can hide extensive corrosion in the bulkhead and other hard to spot places, so unless you're one of these people get someone very familiar with them to inspect if you want to properly value a car.
