Almost no rust on the G....and NONE on the 129...
None on my 107 either - but it has lived in the South of France so hardly typical. And I was referring to your comment about ugliness - pot calling kettle black?
But all in jest.

Saw a SL today in verry rare colour-sort of a darker China Blue.Naff but very cool.
So darker than this then? This is a stock China Blue car taken from Google pics...Note this is '81 post the first facelift (380 rather than 350) but before the second (so not the 420).

Quite a load coming up in the ACA auction shortly. I quite like the look of the 380SL with cruise and aircon, but can't get there sadly.

Wife's company car gone, so removed the cover from '81 R107 500SL. Put a new battery in it, pumped up the tyres, added 5l Petrol from the lawnmower can and fired it up.
Been sat for 6.5 years and not moved 20yds, so gave it some snow-foam and a shower.
Insured and took it for pre-booked MOT last Saturday (12 mile warm up drive to MOT station). Put some fresh petrol in on the way.
PASSED with a single advisory (slight bind to front driver's side brake).
I am now driving it every day again - Boy, but is it thirsty. 100 miles and half the tank has been vaporised.
Love the old gal...

Guys. Some help please.
Really miss my old 500sl and am looking to get another R107.
Been recommended one for sale privately. Mid blue. Cream leather, 100k miles, 420sl, 1987.
Not really discussed ££ figures yet but I know the garage/mechanic that maintains the car and they have said it is in perfect condition.
So what would be a fair price do you think?

Both of these have lower miles and the SL Shop have a couple at £24k and £28k but that's right at the top end. http://www.theslshop.com/car-showroom/slshop.html?...
For a private sale with one with a 100k, provided it was rot free and in good order, mid teens?

Mine's a silver D reg 420SL with just over 100k miles and it's a superb car. It's all about condition rather than absolute mileage of course, but I did see loads of cars with just under 100k, so not sure if that's a psychological barrier for some.
Lovely car to drive and it's hard to find people who don't love it.

The mileage isnt that relevant but sub 100k is nice to have - the 420sl is a rare version but from memory not a great engine. If the body is sound and it drives fine then I would say 15k is about right.
I just got my manual 280 sl out this weekend - 176k miles on its original clutch! Has been in the family since new and I don't ever remember the car breaking down - it stopped many times as my father regularly ran it out of fuel!

Quentin keeps tipping these and they seem to be increasing in value. I should have bought one in March when I originally posted here! The problem is that it would be an everyday car and live outdoors and it would be criminal for it to deteriorate as a result
I can't thnk of a classic more suited to that life - as long as you look after it (drainage holes cleared, rust protection etc). They make the perfect daily driver.drmark said:

That's absolutely right. Two years ago a friend of mine bought a 1988 300SL. He had the intention tu use it on weekends and holidays.
Over the last year however he did more miles in it than he did in his daily driver Lexus CT200H, as they are so usable and reliable. just watch the bodywork and you should be fine.
