I quite enjoyed Quentins ramblings last night; especially the bit about "real men don't like quiche and Merc SLs" I love quiche and have 2 hehe

Maybe, but that is a very good programme imo.

But it's very upsetting that the 107 has been given such an enthusiastic promo just as I'm looking for one!
Price rise is bound to accelerate even more frown

I remember the old top gear, when quentin raved aboutthe sl. As an adolescent, my abiding memory of the piece was the opening shot, taken between a womens legs.

He's apparently had some kind of Freudian attachment to the SL for quite a long time then!yikes

Presumably by the time Mr Wilson joined TG it must have been the R129 version, or did they start off with a retrospective?

When they had Tinnie Tempah on (not sure of the spelling) he said the SL had captured a time perfectly. Had they reused what he said about the gullwing in the first show? I don't have my recording anymore to check.

I'm so pleased I have one of these old donkeys

I remember the times when I hadn't and recall always feeling totally gutted....such a pretty car

Now that I've found my perfect super low mileage example I don't think I'll ever sell it.

It's strange but it even gets compliments from people that don't have an interest in cars

These cars must be spotless and mint and in a darker shade. Your 2 cars are awesome Lee. Would have loved a 500 after my two 300. Mind you now that my car has brand new suspension and bushes and drives in a very balanced way.

Have you still got the 300? thought you'd sold it?

Agreed on darker colours.......though I loved the mid grey one I had

The super low miler is silver however and not a great colour on these but could be worse

I like them in bright red - as does Mercedes (it is the colour of their 300 they roll out at press launches, and of the last 107 to roll off the production line - a 500 that sits in their museum).
Great taste wink

Agreed......love a red SL

Sold this one a few years back

Love a red one but wasn't that popular when I was trying to sell this really nice low mileage car

Love or hate colour I think

I love them in all colours. Mine is navy with creme leather. Silver and red look great as well.

The checked interior looks very cool.

If you have free view the classic show episode is on Demand5.

They look lovely in Signal Red.

Here's a Euro conversion of a strangled 560SL for €90k. 4 km on the clock. Not 4k, 4!

Serious money!

They can be picked up for under 30K.

High mileage can hardly be an issue on these motors!

Thought mine was low mileage at 4k miles.

In response to the above post with mileage comes wear and tear and in the UK more exposure to our manky climate....BUT agreed if you take your time there are still decent cars out there with miles

I'd heard that the SL is known for having brittle plastic teeth on the little cog in the milometer, loss of which over time can cause the recording of miles to slow and then stop altogether? (thats what I was told when my milometer packed in one day). Any truth in this?

Interesting, I've never heard that before. But was at a meet on Sunday & a mate mentioned his friends 560 in South Africa has also packed up on the odometer & it's common apparently. Anyone recommend a source of the repair kit in the UK?

Cheers
