Would anybody be interested in this if I was willing to organise? Open pit lane, good behaviour, novices very welcome.

I'm thinking it would be a bit of a hoot, good company and a nice day out.

Late spring probably best and a reasonably central(ish) circuit on a Friday. I'm thinking Silverstone.

If anyone is interested make your mark below in the normal manner. If we can get enough people we could perhaps take an entire trackday to ourselves. Not sure how many that. Would be, perhaps. 40+ ish?

Interested:

I'd be up for it. .
Silverstone can be very pricey and not many days available. .

I'd approach a reputable track day organiser and get a group deal..

I'd love to have a crack at this, but my classic won't be ready by then I don't think

Is 1992 a classic?

I suppose it'll come down to performance and skill, ideally less of the former and more of the latter.

On my last day at Silverstone I was doing some laps in the Mission Motorsport MX5 after I shat the transaxle on the Porsche.

It was putting out 90hp. Also out on track was a Le Mans Mosler. On the straights it had a 120mph+ closing speed. Not much fun for either of us.

Ideally we'd put together a day where there isn't such differences in outright speed.

Also will be good to dodge the Subaru / Lancer / Caterfield brigade. They're too quick in the corners wink

lovely idea, i'd be up for it in my Morgan. Goodwood is a great circuit for classics, not just for obvious reasons with the Revival, but because the circuit flows nicely. Spitfires are a bonus.

I think you need to define terms very clearly though. One aspect is 'classic cars' but the other big point you mentioned was 'good behaviour'. We could do with track days that enforced that more generally.

Points taken, Robert.

Goodwood would be perfect but it is far from ideal for a day out for anyone north of the Midlands. I would really like this to be as easy as poss for everyone.

Especially noted on behaviour. That's why I was thinking of Melindi/GoldTrack - she's very good at keeping on top of things.

I'm also pretty damned good at shouting too smile

I'll crack on with the BMW then. The other car isn't suitable

You just never know. Might get her done in time!

Donington is a very good call.

Stag - awesome!

I don't want this to develop into a 'can I bring x?' - we're all adults and I hope everyone who is potentially interested would know themselves if their car is right or not.

The Stag, great, big lump on an old chasis, tricky to drive hard and perfect for the job.

Early MR2 with a Hayabusa or Mk1 Golf with an R32, not so much.

Let's try and keep it classy!

Depending on when it is I would be up for it in my car. Im am hoping to get the car back in April now and so just counting the months down.

I was actually thinking of planning a Goodwood one. I live pretty close to Goodwood and would be happy to chat with them for one there as a second venue if of interest.

I always use to class a classic car as a car that is tax exempt. However, I would see cars such as a Sierra Cosworth as a classic, so difficult to define.

Brands surely ?? Steeped in History, easy to get to and much more.

Yes I'm very interested as well, but the thought of someone of little skill / experience ploughing into to the Griff is not a pleasant thought, they don't take a shunt well and are difficult and expensive to repair and the reason that I havnt done one before.
I have another car in mind, but again it's the thought of someone else damaging it.

Is track day insurance available ?

I'd definitely be up for this - either 911 2.7RS or Jaguar C-Type.
Another vote for Silverstone - they tend to offer more track days at the higher 105db limit which is what my cars make - so anything less than that and I'm out frown
Great idea though

Yes, this is the crux of it really and why I'm keen to avoid having wildly mismatched cars on track.

This day should and will be open to track driving novices though, that is important. Will pen more on this from the office when on a computer.

Re insurance - oh yes, a million and one options available.

Ok, a few more thoughts:

Track / location

Central is a must I think and that gives a relatively limited choice. Realistically the options are:

Donington Park
Mallory Park
Silverstone

For a mix of novices and experienced drivers Silverstone is hard to beat with its wide track and huge run-off areas... but it will come down to price as it would be far and away the most expensive.

Cars

I think a provisional 'up to 1980' cut off is about right. This will give us a great mix but will avoid some of the 'modern classics' which will be far, far faster than a lot of others. This is NOT set in stone though and I think we should be relatively open to interesting and suitable post-'80 cars. As said above those interested need to be their own guide. However, and this is just a personal thing, I'm not really interested in sharing the track with a bunch of Caterham type rockets.

People interested

Probably a good idea to start a proper list so I can keep track and keep people updated. So far it looks like we have the below (obviously date depending etc). Could people please update this filling in a few other bits as I have below:

Benjj - Porsche 944 rally car or BMW E12 M535i - intermediate track experience
Chevy-Stu - ?
Robert Elise - Morgan?
Johnnythespider - Triumph Stag
P100 - TVR Vixen S2
Markymark93 - ?
Neutral 3 - ?
Epoch911 - C-Type or 2.7RS
