although I like the "Federal" dashboard of the Mark II and III,
That's interesting Breaders, I've never heard it referred to as "Federal" before. Where did that come from?
Same for Rolls Royce, 'FSS' introduced 1969, Federal Safety Specification, including revised 'safety' facia.

Now I will be in trouble as I have just bought a supercharged Lampredi twin cam (in a Lancia HPE Volumex).

My Lancia knowledge is woefully lacking, was the HPE the Beta Coupe with the longer and bigger back end?

If so, congratulations biggrin They are a lovely motor car smile

The supercharged engines were rare weren't they? Only came in for the last year (1984-85)?

Oh, and I too have failed on the forced induction front - just ordered a new Golf R as my daily.

The HPE (High Performance Estate, later rebranded as High Performance Executive) is based on the Beta Berlina (saloon) and so has a longer wheelbase than the Beta Coupe and Spyder. The HPE was introduced in the mid 1970s and came in 1600 and 2000 forms, and near the end of the Beta's model life (1983-1984 ish) it was equipped with a supercharger (Volumex), that boosted the torque a lot, and the BHP a little. The supercharger was alao available for the Coupe, but not for the Spyder.

This is the 1983 HPE Volumex that I have just bought:

Lovely! I once had a non-volumex coupe. A perfectly pretty little coupe it was too. Although, in truth, the engine was the best bit because the ignition failed, the rotor arm failed, the sunroof leaked, the brakes failed (alarming indeed) and the suspension collapsed. Nevertheless it still wiped a mate's twin-cam Toyota Celica. Until I stuck it through a hedge. Should have sorted those damn brakes I guess.

I once had a memorable hedge/car interface in a Triumph Vitesse Mark II that had dire brakes, although the fault lay mainly with my, ahem, enthusiastic driving. The car and I both survived.

I have a slight bias here (I've owned 4 Interceptors and an SP) but I cannot stress enough that if you have the desire to own a Jensen go and get one. There is only one problem, if you ever sell it nothing else will quite replace it (and I've tried allsorts) so in theory you have an illness and the best treatment is a bit of the poison.
One thing I will say (also) is try the SP if you can find one because a good one is flippin' quick.

I have owned two Interceptors, but currently have a huge Jensen shaped hole in my life, alas.

There are better cars, and cars that are easier to look after, but there's nothing like an Interceptor.

7 litres of relaxed open-air motoring... as the picture caption says. (7.2 of course for the pedants).
