A local lad had a sapphire cossie replica, it looked really good to be fair. Anyway, it was really a 1.6 or 1.8.

It was nicked one night and left parked up undamaged about 100 yards up the road where I presume they realised that a cosworth engine wasnt under the bonnet. He had the mickey taken out of him for ages after that.

Reading some of these comments is making me wonder if they're still getting nicked? Is it still the case? If so it seems a little odd.

Enjoyed reading the "REVS" features with that one

To be honest, with getting on for 40,000 cars built with easy to overccme security, there were bound to be a few hundred stories over the last 25 years!
Crikey, you've got the memory of an OCD elephant. That was 15 years ago!

Some more Ford related stories for you...

It wasn't just Cossies which seemed attractive at that time - my Dad's Mk. 1 Escort also attracted unwanted attention in the 80's!

It was a 1972 'K' plate 1.1L as well - nothing fancy at all! But in 1983 it was left in the car park of the Birmingham Metropole Hotel, whilst we went away on our annual holiday. Came back to it to find it broken into, broken steering lock, with all the dash / steering column wiring hanging out. The potential theives must have been very close to nicking it - but never did - maybe they were disturbed and ran off?

Anyway the following year we left it at one of the car parks at Gatwick. This time, we got back to find an Escort-shaped space where the car was once parked yikes

Amazingly, the BiB found it 2 weeks later, dumped in a housing estate in Dagenham! We can only surmise that it had tried to go back to it's spiritual home biggrin anyway, once repaired again, Dad learned his lesson and we took the train to the airports for holidays after that!

Also, more recently in the 90's, a mate had a Transit Van for his building work. We soon sussed that it could easily be broken into, even when it was all locked up. How? Just by simply walking up to the back doors, and giving the door with the lock on it one good, hard punch, by the lock barrel. Just one punch would do 'something' to the lock, disabling it so the door could be opened! yikes

Had my 92 sapphire 4x4 taken back in the day, it had been extensively modified, and owed me in excess of 20k. Never to be seen again, but the insurance did pay up.......7k frown
Also my mate had his RS500 taken off his drive, numerous alarm systems fitted, wife's car parked right behind, and a German shepherd who if you farted in the street it would bark all night, got up in the morning to see no Cosworth, never recovered.

Did they produce Cosworth Sierras in red? Quite a lot of the engine bay is red; possibly a standard 2-door shell? Also, those arch extensions and skirts look blended in; I thought they were bolted on? No doubt a Cossie expert will put me right
A lot of Cossie bits found their way onto 1600L 3door shells, which were the only shell similar to the cossie.
My guess is that car was painted white and probably just looked like a cossie but never had the drivetrain.

I'm sure in certain areas they'll be at risk. Fast fords still have quite a big following and the market for parts and modification work is big, so I'm sure crime isn't too far behind.
People are still taking Mk.1 Escorts out of garages so you can be pretty sure that a Sierra/Escos will appeal to the right form of scrote.

An ex girlfriend of mine that I'm still friendly with used to work in her Dad's garages/dealerships and I can remember her dad getting a new Sierra Cossie delivered. He's still got it 20+ years later, less than 500 miles on the clock. He's also got various other exotica stored with it, none of which I was ever allowed to even look at never mind touch - Ferarris, Masers etc but the Cossie is his baby.
When he goes on holiday she house-sits, not for the house but to make sure nobody nicks the cars.

That is sickening. Utterly pointless to nick it then torch it.

On a side note, on the original gta game, this was always the preferred motor of choice. Handled well and was fast as...

My dad bought 3 Cosworths from Vince Woodman during the 90s and I used to see the red one regularly. I too remember the story about the youth stealing another off the forecourt in Winterborne and him chasing it down the road. I believe he caught it as the youth didn't quite expect a 60 year old racing dirver to be after him!!! I have not the red Cossie for a few years now - and I know there was a big fire with a lot of Woodman's cars so it may be no longer??

Strangely despite not living in the nicest of areas, apart from the badge being stolen I don't recall any issues with my dad's Cossies...
