Beautifully decadent luxury barge, Rolls Silver Cloud.
Most European luxury sedans have been getting bigger and bigger over the years. Not so with Rolls Royce- they seem to have always been massive. I was quite surprised by the sheer scale of it, made even the bloated SUVs around it look like compact cars
Except the width, curiously. One of the guvnors at the last place I worked treated himself to a Bentley S2 - a Cloud with a different radiator grille - and I was struck by how narrow it was compared to its other dimensions. A new Range Rover, for example, is about seven inches wider. The only explanation I can come up with is that roads in general were narrower when the Cloud was new. Most European luxury sedans have been getting bigger and bigger over the years. I spotted a really nice VW Beetle restoration in Yateley when I went to get my hair cut on Saturday...
Built and first registered in 1959, so 55 years old. Registered as being fitted with an 1192cc engine. As far as I could tell, it was flawless in every respect. Lovely.
I loved the little touches the owner had retained too, like the old owners club and dealer stickers in the rear window. I should have grabbed a close-up shot of them. They weren't 1959 vintage, but they were certainly applied during a bygone age...

interesting fact about the cloud is that the rear seat is the same width (near enough) as the one in a classic mini - yet the body is huge!there is so much wasted space in the doors - they are about 10" thick
