Goodwood - 10 hours away, thanks for the idea though.
"Do they have to be spotted in the wild..?" Maybe..
Perhaps we can cheat & set fire to one of his Mr Potato characters, would that count? ??
For what it's worth, if your lad is desperate to see one, I went on the Caparo Facebook page and they do (at times at least) announce where they're going to be displaying a car."Do they have to be spotted in the wild..?" Maybe..

If I had the space then I think so but that seems too much of a bargain - looks in good nick save some corrosion along the leading bonnet edge - what was it like in the flesh?
£4k doesn't seem a lot though!
I didn't look around it too much. I was hanging back for the driver to disappear before getting the photo, but he walked up to me and started asking if I wanted to buy it. He's got a couple of others apparently. I don't know if he recognised me from a local car show or whether I wasn't doing much of a job of looking nonchalant while he left.£4k doesn't seem a lot though!

On ebay and looks like the £4k reserve has been met ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131392210899?ssPageName=...

"kicks into overdrive and they see me flying past"??? WTF? This guy knows what an 'overdrive' is, I assume?
...seeing as how...
On a car with an auto box, where overdrive is selected, it will usually kick in somewhere above 40 to 45mph, reducing engine speed, and noise, and saving on fuel use. It's a cruising gear, FFS! When the driver adds an additional load, either by increased throttle input to accelerate, or by pointing the car up a steep hill, the gearbox slips out of overdrive into the lower gears. Not the other way around.
I'm not sure I'd want to buy a car from an enthusiast who has no idea how his beloved 40 year old classic actually works...

Just to answer a few queries, the reserve is set at £4000 and no, you wont get it any cheaper or come and haggle with me,..that should thistle out some of the 294 watchers, I'd rather you unwatch me and go and look at some Ford Fiesta's, I'm sure you'll get one for some of the prices people are offering me. A little history lesson, this model is BMW's most iconic one, although not a Turbo or Tii, it is still a 2002 and a very good one at that. It is that good, you will be able to use it as a daily driver and commute in retro style to work and back in normal traffic, I grin sometimes when I overtake new current cars in it, when it kicks into overdrive and they see me flying past them, only German engineering!!!. This is not a museum piece, that you will need to store away in a heated room, or count every mile you do for fear of clocking the miles up, what a load of crap! Why buy the car, just to put it away and polish it, enjoy it and let people see it. Cars were built to be driven and you can drive this one every day to put a smile on your face, even if you don't like your job, just to drive it there and back will make you want to go to work, no kidding!!!
As I said, if you prick me, you'll get blue blood coming out of me, that how much a fan I am of the brand, I love these cars and this car is going nowhere if its not bought by a fellow enthusiast, you will know what this car represents and what its worth, so I will see it going to a good home and at least feel that I didn't let it go for Fiesta money! Only serious bidders and watchers please, I'd rather have 5 watchers or bidders, than the 294 watchers and half of them don't have a clue, no offence intended!!!

...I (c)am a BMW enthusiast and I have another two classic BMW's and have been for 22 years a devoted fan of the brand and culture...
Or am I the one being thick here? Overdrive? Over gearing the final drive, such that the engine RPM is reduced for a given road speed, designed to reduce wear and engine noise, increase longevity, and make fuel economy gains. It's not a feckin' 'boost button' for despatching your oponents in the traffic light Grands Prix. Overdrive is effectively a second gearbox which affects the rotation speed of the output from the main gearbox. I think he probably meant into *kickdown* ... or something like that ...
I have no idea what the precentages are for this model sold with manual/auto - and I have no experience of either in this car, but having an auto one just doesn't sound right! Gotta be a manual in these, surely?
A mate of mine was going to bid on a Stag recently on ebay in Kent - looked lovely in the pics/decent value etc, and this was a £9000 car - but sensibly decided to go down there and see it in the flesh (as you would at that price). Complete horror show! Badly patched floors, paintwork a bit iffy, interior tarted up, wrong components in some areas - ALWAYS go see a car like this in the flesh.

Says he, who bought a Mustang coupe in 2003 from the States after simply looking at the pics on the 'net. Luckily, car was a good 'un
