I was cycling near Silchester yesterday morning, too. A couple of older British classics drove past in the opposite direction. First was a blue Austin Seven, older chap driving, top down. Then this...

...the first one caught me by surprise, so no photo, but I spotted the second one on a long straight road, some distance ahead, so had time to grab the camera and snatch this shot. Looking damn fine in the sunshine, especially considering it'll be 80 years old next year.

It is a shame, though, that the number plate format is so out of keeping with the age of the car.

I went in and had a chat and they seemed fine. Pretty quiet in there really, as they are just killing time until closure.
Good news! It's still there and I'll be popping along tomorrow lunch time. bounce

The Europa in the background was also very pricey and apparently has racing history.
Going by the Knock Offs, frame-less windows and fuel filler (just visible) I'd wager it's a 47 rather than a Europa.

DVLA gives a build date of 1991, so a later one, but it also shows as a 5 litre, though, which would make it an early one - so who knows! I feel the need to route via Marlborough & find out. Real shame it comes out of the woodwork when the dealership is closing - perhaps it's an asset of the company?
DVLA will be a registration rather than a build date, so it could well have sat in a collection for a few years before being sold/registered during the bust after the boom.

In the Sixties my old fella bought an Austin 7 to stay mobile between selling his Wolseley 4/44 and buying his MG Magnette. My mum hated it. When it went over a puddle she got wet feet. He sold it for five quid to a bloke who wanted a much faster car and kept breaking half shafts. In the end he was so fed up with it he pushed it into the River Blackwater near where it crosses the A30. It may still be there. The river is only a few inches deep in places.

Yeah, and the lines look smoother on the one above.

Friday I cycled to Windsor Great Park to do half a dozen laps of the 1948 Olympic Road Race cycling course. On the way there I spotted this beautiful 1953 Riley in Windlesham...

That picture was taken at the bottom of Updown Hill. I was waiting to turn right when I spotted the Riley and waited at the Give Way line to grab a snap.

Updown Hill made me giggle, too.

He may have meant fake flat nose rather than fake Porsche.
