The design was called Inca but I always think of them as veg-o-matics.
I'm amazed there were only 200 black ones. Back then they all seemed to be black bar a few in that brick red.
The 3 door hatch was more common and were the first 99 turbos imported, then there was a limited run of 5 door carsI'm amazed there were only 200 black ones. Back then they all seemed to be black bar a few in that brick red.
in metallic red and black.
The 2 door cars were slightly later, all on 1980 vins,400 were red and 200 were black.
I worked at a dealer in period and I hope all the above is accurate.
Where I worked the last black 2 door we had was registered on a "Y" plate and got written off by it's celebrity owner
fairly quickly.

Other markets got other colours too.
White cars were sold somewhere and 4 door cars too which AFAIK weren't sold here.
I remember a family relative in Italy having a 2dr 99 Turbo in a kind of Apple Green Metallic, pretty sure it was a factory shade as it was in the early 80s so would have been fairly new. He had a thing for swedish cars, replacing it with a Volvo 780 Bertone Coupe.White cars were sold somewhere and 4 door cars too which AFAIK weren't sold here.

Like this? Very nice and a bit different.
Yes that's the colour, they were popular in Italy as they still had the odd tax law where anything over 2 litres was heavily penalised. Insurance was also based on engine size which probably explains why the Italians were good at extracting relatively high power from small engines.Iva Barchetta said:

We had a W-reg red 2-door turbo when I was a child. It was my dad's first Saab, and he still drives a 9-5 today. My mum set our school run record in it, once covering the 11 miles of Wiltshire back roads in a smidge over 9 minutes. Clearly where I got my Saab love from.in metallic red and black.

Love the Mk2 Cortina estate!
My dad hAd a dark blue one when I was a kid in the 70's, Rostyle wheels & the wood pack inside, have always fancied building something similar.
Other cars are great too.
Indeed... this was at the Paul Walker meet in Southampton yesterday. The Mk3 Cortina was a 3.1 litre savage. Never seen one in the flesh before. My dad hAd a dark blue one when I was a kid in the 70's, Rostyle wheels & the wood pack inside, have always fancied building something similar.
