Saw an identical car in action today at Knockhill, racing in the Scottish Classics Championship. It's a glorious sight - a bit alarming when the engine caught fire in race one, but I guess it was just an oil fire, as it was back out three hours later in race two! Great to see it being raced, though.Isimmo said:

As I approached, the beaming pilot and co-pilot emerged to say I was the second person to have approached them today. The other key parts of the conversation were: "Hello, I'm Ollie from Top Gear," "I've got the car for a couple of days," "It's part of the Audi Press Fleet," and, "You won't believe the mileage."
I did. The car is immaculate.
Thanks, Ollie. I shall seek out your missives in Top Gear.
Wow... must be one of the most desirable of a very desirable car.I did. The car is immaculate.

You're being very dull, Dicky.
I know. I can't help it.

Dull? Don't be silly. That sort of stuff is pretty much precisely why I come to this forum. I know. I can't help it.
It is full of people who own (or have owned) cars and know about them and live with them and experience them and enthuse about them, rather than people who simply know how to type and use Wikipedia.

Wow, I remember looking at and driving one exactly like that aged 17 when searching for my first car with my dad. I didn't get it though, went for an Escort 3-door estate instead. Less cool probably, but bigger.Sorry to say it didn't leave me in mint condition

The car was as new. When the chap from Top Gear told Audi he intended to add 200 miles to the total and how big an increase this would be, he was told it was fine. I was interested to see what tyres it had and was amazed to see it was running 245 section. RS2s had 245 originally but they were made especially for the car with very stiff sidewalls and supplies soon ran out. When I bought it, mine, in common with many others, had conventional 245s. Conventional 245s are too wide for the car and foul parts of the suspension which could lead to problems. Mine had bits of polished suspension due to the tyres rubbing. I wondered if the one here had its original tyres, in which case they were very old. The solution for most owners is to run 225 section.

My first thought on seeing this RS2 post was "I wonder when the cam-belt was last done?"You're being very dull, Dicky.

Tyres are getting to be a bit of a problem for these newer classics, all of a sudden it seems. I think there's only one 'correct' size tyre available for urQuattro, and the near-enough choices are not huge.

To me it is the motoring equivalent of muesli.......
The funny thing is, that "muesli" is probably rarer now than your beloved TR4! Seen on (I think) the M1 southbound yesterday morning, an immaculate Healey 3000 on a low loader. Phone was in the boot so no photo, sorry.

Great to see that Europa. It's identical to the one I had in the '70's.
I heard that it was turned into a hovercraft! by Wheeler Dealer duo but I've not been able to confirm the story.
The reg no of my Europa was BRE 92J. Can anybody shed any more light on the story?
I'm sure i've seen it in the past & some time spent with our friend Google came up with a Monster Garage programme on Channel 4 in May 2004. Apparently there was a budget of £3,000 & they used 3 days for the build, most of the web links i found no longer exist. I heard that it was turned into a hovercraft! by Wheeler Dealer duo but I've not been able to confirm the story.

However i found

Although if you are Mr Pearson or Mr Grounds you already know about it!
