Not illegal on anythign pre 72 i think, when the law came in. Had full tints on my 56 Chevy
Oh, I hadn't realised there was a date limit. Should have guessed, there is on most things. I know it's cheating to use pictures from meets, festivals or other gatherings but it's not often you'll see three quality examples of these parked together. Each one a credit to their respective owner:
Oh, and I've no idea what this is. I think it's an Elan based car and was attending the same meet at Brands. I probably should have read the accompanying splurge thoughtfully provided by the owner, but I was too busy scoffing my ice cream:

It's the WB120 Special. Tubular chassis and alloy body, so not related to an Elan at all. Climax-engined.Pics here during restoration a few years ago, more elsewhere on the same blog.

Care to show the legislation that states that?According to: https://www.gov.uk/tinted-vehicle-window-rules:
Vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later:
The front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.
Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The front windscreen and front side windows must both let at least 70% of light through.
There's no mention of any exemptions for pre 1972 cars!

There's a note on the DVLA web site that suggests anything with VED-exemption can now wear these old-style silver on black plates. Quite a thread on it somewhere, with no specific conclusion as I recall.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
An American-looking classic today in Farnborough. Beige-ey pale yellow, fifties style, lots of glass, not far off looking the same going backward as forward from the windows up.
No idea what it was, I don't recall seeing one before. Also a sixties Mustang, and a white Renault 5 GT Turbo, lowered and standing on black painted wheels. Looked pretty cool, and a long time since I saw one.

I spotted this in the garage of the guy who owns the place we're staying at in Italy.
This morning he took me out for a spin into town. Driving through narrow lanes between front steps and then out into the town square for an espresso and a look at the local sites. Bonus.
