Oh, I hadn't realised there was a date limit. Should have guessed, there is on most things.
Illegal or not, it's still dangerous. A friend wanted them on his car (he was a paparazzo photographer so wanted them for work reasons), got them, but rapidly got them removed as even he felt unsafe, which is quite something as he was a dreadful driver anyway.

IIRC the Dellow chassis was made from parts from war surplus rockets.

Not sure if it was originally a convertible. But spotted this at cheddar gorge.

I'm no expert but looks like a cut down hardtop by the look of the top of the door frame front corner.

I know it's cheating to use pictures from meets, festivals or other gatherings but it's not often you'll see three quality examples of these parked together. Each one a credit to their respective owner:

Oh, and I've no idea what this is. I think it's an Elan based car and was attending the same meet at Brands. I probably should have read the accompanying splurge thoughtfully provided by the owner, but I was too busy scoffing my ice cream:

It's the WB120 Special. Tubular chassis and alloy body, so not related to an Elan at all. Climax-engined.

Pics here during restoration a few years ago, more elsewhere on the same blog.

The doors are a lot deeper in a genuine one.

No photo sadly but this afternoon I passed a tidy looking two tone blue / grey Humber Supersnipe towing a very large caravan on the A444 just off the A5. Bit of a tailback in its wake but it did look the part!

Care to show the legislation that states that?

According to: https://www.gov.uk/tinted-vehicle-window-rules:

Vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later:

The front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.

Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:

The front windscreen and front side windows must both let at least 70% of light through.

There's no mention of any exemptions for pre 1972 cars!

There's a note on the DVLA web site that suggests anything with VED-exemption can now wear these old-style silver on black plates. Quite a thread on it somewhere, with no specific conclusion as I recall.

I'd think the Tintin baddies had caught up with me if I saw that in the mirror.

Thread here about b&w number plates, after everyone editing posts and debating the interpretation of government websites I think we got to an acceptance that they can now be put on cars as they become tax free. biggrin

An American-looking classic today in Farnborough. Beige-ey pale yellow, fifties style, lots of glass, not far off looking the same going backward as forward from the windows up.

No idea what it was, I don't recall seeing one before. Also a sixties Mustang, and a white Renault 5 GT Turbo, lowered and standing on black painted wheels. Looked pretty cool, and a long time since I saw one.

I spotted this in the garage of the guy who owns the place we're staying at in Italy.

This morning he took me out for a spin into town. Driving through narrow lanes between front steps and then out into the town square for an espresso and a look at the local sites. Bonus.
