COOL CLASSIC CAR SPOTTERS POST!!! Vol 2
Discussion
Very rarely does one get to follow a Bugatti, but I think I did today, between Petworth and West Chiltington in Sussex. It was pale blue (no surprise there) with a type 35 or type 37 body and its number, printed on the rear bodywork, ended with 429. A little homework/research suggests it was type 44 which has been rebodied with type 37 bodywork. It was hustling along at a fair pace and not afraid to overtake. Quite twitchy on those narrow tyres, but great fun to follow. And seconds after it turned off, there was a red TR3A coming the other way. Pretty good few minutes, all in all.

1.4 engine must be a mis print ,it's certainly not red.
Maybe a kit car ?
Maybe a kit car ?
1438cc was the capacity of a 1975 Lancia Beta, which matches the registration number. A genuine Stratos had the 2.4litre Dino engine, so my guess is that it was a replica built in 2013 using the ID of an old Beta.

Not exactly by the book though.

I took time out from a recent business trip in Berlin to call in and see the Classic Remisse showroom and Museum. It was nice to spot my two dream classic cars in the right colours and parked right next to each other.
Sadly I had left my cheque book at home.
This place has free entry and you can just wander around so it's well worth a visit as they have some great cars on show all of the time.

There's something a bit shameful in a motoring museum displaying a kit-car, giving members of the public the impression that it's a genuine car
All this Stratos talk has had me googling.....
Came across this lovely story - Alex Wurz on the bonnet of his father's Rallycross Stratos which was and still is, the world's only 3.0 Stratos.
30 years later, Wurz jnr buys the car off of a collector and undertakes a 2 year restoration on it
Back to the green one. It seems a bit over colour coded - the mirrors, rear spoiler and roof spoiler should be black and did the road cars ever have that front spoiler?

My memory isn't as good as it used to be, but I am sure that I had read somewhere many years ago about a German owner who used to deliver pizzas in his Stratos when they weren't so valuable and were "just an old car".
I can't remember anything else about the article other than that little snippet.

This links to article I hope
Interestingly the article describes a Kermit Green Stratos with colour-coded spoilers and poor panel fit along with a picture. The car is stored at classic remise and they take it for a test drive so I guess it's possibly the same one as in my photo.

In fairness, they’re not really being disingenuous ...Classic Remise isn’t a museum. It’s a dealer showroom, restoration business co-operative and car storage facility that’s been turned into a social and retail destination. Housed in an amazing historic tram works. So the Stratos is likely either a customer car, stored in a visible way for the public to enjoy, or a car for sale from the various dealers that are on site. Either way, it’s a brilliant place to go and well worth a visit. A 30 minute walk from the central Hauptbahnhof.
It’s a bit like Classic Motor Hub in Bibury but on a much bigger scale
Years ago I spoke to the driver of a D-type at the garage on the A34 just shy of the M40 Silverstone bound. After pleasantries he owned up to it being a replica and I had to compliment him on the standard of the build. It fooled me.
"I leave the real one at home these days," he said.
Brilliant throw away line and he had the real one for reference for the replica.
Or he was fibbing.
Off Topic: I mentioned to him I knew former Jaguar Works driver, Jack Fairman. "Don't lend him any money!" Too late! Poor old Jack.

My late business partner had a very ropey Subaru Impreza Estate. He used to tell people "I'm using my wife's car, because the Bentley's in the workshop.""I leave the real one at home these days," he said.

Not a throw away line, he was just brim full of bullst
