i Greg,
all the minilite wheels I've had on my classics and many you normally see are not originals but copies

I'm with you I think minlite and their copies generally look good on classics but I still much prefer the look of steel wheels with chrome hub caps

Hi Nigel, fair enough if they were replicas, to me that doesn't detract from the great looks.

I must agree that some cars look just right with nice shiny hubcaps. Even the latest Beetle displays the welcome return of them in a very knowing "retro" way.

it doesn't worry me either if they're copies but these sort of things do worry some

as we're already got a Rover Mini I won't put up my then new mid-'90s Rover Mini Cooper 1.3i but as my present Midget has minilite copies in Anthracite (dark grey) with polished rims here's a photo even if they don't show up well in it

I've always been a big fan of minilite....has to be the genuine item though and not one of the multitude of lookalikes and copies that are on the market.

They are still one of the best looking and practical wheels if you're going to use the car for any kind of competition. Much more robust than the original steel wheels....plus no hubcaps to go flying off into the undergrowth !

You do know that Minilites and replicas, e.g. Minator are made by the same company:

Me? No I hadn't heard of Minators. As it says at the bottom of the first link;
Probably the most imitated of all wheel designs, but there is only one ‘Genuine Minilite’

I just think it's a classic simple design which I suppose is why it looks so good on so many models.

Well we do all like gratuitous pics of our Minilites, so here's yet another from the 55mph Club...

LBS, you have Bertie, I have Gertie...both of which travel at breakneck speed of 55leptons...apparently. Interestingly, my 55mph'er is en route to looking not too dissimilar to this...

Loving the number of Midgets... +1 for minilites (well replicas)

I was very tempted to go with anthracite, so I compromised by having silver permanently covered in brke dust ;-)

Interesting, can you elaborate on what the plans are?

With pleasure...half way through dropping in 4.0 V8 + R380 'box + Hoyle Suspension + twin stainless exhaust and a whole host of other interesting goodies. Have split the project into two phases 1. all mechanicals and electrics, 2. revise the interior next winter. Bodywork will be standard Sebring front and rear + MGC bonnet for a little extra room as will be running modified EFi. Note from your profile you too have a V8...which of course only proceeds at 55mpg wink

More project info' can be seen here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

This is our Midget when she had Minilites (copies)...

...but since May she's been rolling on Rostyles, which we think are nicer.
