Had a customer who had one, he was highly delighted with it when it worked, sort of a budget 911.

Shouldn't you have checked that before buying one? scratchchin

Lovely looking things though and seem to be well regarded.

Be sure to post some photos once you've picked it up.

I love these, really do. I imagine they are fragile but I'd be happy to hear otherwise! No idea what kind of money they command

Excellent car!

Only problems are rust in the floor and rear suspension, electric door releases, speedo and fuel gauges.

I had one for about 5 years and did many miles including an extended European tour. Did many track days too. Only problem was boost dissappearing once it got hot. The chargecooler isn't that good - but water injection will cure that.

Very comfortable and remarkably economical too.

As with most rare cars, beware of all the so-called experts who know nothing. I have sorted out a few of those cars that have suffered these people.

Lastly, join the RAOC - generally a good bunch of people.

Well all that seems good then - I hope I've bought a good example!

I've just been reading a selection of period road tests and they're all very positive and rave about the car.

I hope it will be my Classic Le Mans transport this year.

Pictures to follow at the weekend...

Had a V6 when I lived in France many years ago. It's a bit late to be asking whether they're any good though, surely?

Great cars, bloody fantastic. Calling them a budget 911 really does them an injustice.

Not sure if the English are too stupid to understand their worth or the French are too nostalgic and over value them but they are lovely things.

Like your style. Just bought a car - is it any good. Go to the top of the PH star board.

Not really. If I asked I would normally expect varied responses from those who either love them or hate them and I'd buy it anyway because I just fancy one. I'll only really find out if it's any good (for me) by owning it for a while, regardless of what the general reaction is.
But it is reassuring to find out I'm not the only one who thinks they may be fun!

My brother's had this Turbo for about 20 years. Been off the road for quite a while, but should be back soon. It was remarkably quick and quiet, even with an aftermarket Eurotec stainless 4 pipe exhaust. In fact I owned the car for a while around 2000, when these photos were taken.

I've always fancied one, though possibly a normally aspirated one rather than a Turbo. All the contemporary road tests said they were highly appealing and slightly eccentric, which for me is all good.

Great-looking cars, especially the pre-610 model with turbine alloys.

I have a feeling the turbine alloys take metric tyres, though, so some owners have replaced them with other wheels, which is a pity but probably makes sense if you want decent tyres on the back of your turbocharged, rear-engined car eek

I read the road tests of these when I was a teenager and loved them. Apparently makes quite a refined high-speed cruiser with little engine noise as the engine is out back. Downside is you might not hear as much of it as you might like...

I'm guessing quite a few parts will be Alpine-specific and maybe hard to get or expensive. Engine is just a PRV V6 though, as fitted to numerous other cars including the very similar engine fitted to the Renault 25 Turbo.

i saw one of these at last years Kop Hill Climb, and the owner spotted me and we got chatting. He loved his car, and didn't report any major issues when I asked about running costs etc. I re-call it was white pearl paintwork and very 1980's inside with a Graphic equalizer too (remember those !) I thought it looked great and applaud your choice Sparkey.
