5 speed box for Granada 2.8
Discussion
Had a chat with guy at fordparts uk as I was inquiring about new spigot bearing and here is what he said:
You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to convert Auto Granada's to Manual
(Spigot Bearing) there is two different diameter holes in the crankshaft you need to measure your crankshaft 19mm or 21mm.
The 5 Speed gearboxes should have a 15mm but nose also needs to be checked,
The problems start when you have a 19mm crank because ford do not make a bearing with 19mm od with 15mm id,
the choices are
19mm x 12.7mm 1595873, NLA
21mm x 12.7mm 1595874 NLA
21mm x 15mm 1596468 Avail
you could either have a bearing made or the nose of the transmission machined to 12.7mm.
My question is is there anyway to know my crank spigot size without removing the box? I know I will be taking it out at some point anyway but would be good to know what I might need to plan for - if anything - before removing it. It seems the most common size I see on the net is 21mm x 15mm and measured the box shaft end, which is 21mm, makes me think the bearing would need to be an even bigger diameter than 21mm.
If anyone has similar experiences with cologne 2.8 engine can you let me know what your crank spigot hole size was, and also your gbox shaft end size?
My granada is a 1984 ghia x and box is out of a 2.8 capri.
Many thanks
Andrew

He's quite right unfortunatly i've converted maybe 20 odd V6's to manual and it's a lottery as to what bearing is needed but Burtons do 3 to choose from

Thanks for that link. I understand the 21mm is the outer diameter but what the internal diameter is 15mm then I guess I am confused. My box is 21mm shaft so that would mean the bearing needs to be 21mm internal diameter. Woops I have a 5 spd box out a 2.8 Capri - can that be wrong or should it fit Granada as I had known many to use this box before.http://www.burtonpower.com/catalogsearch/result/?q...
