Of the 12 cars I have owned since 1996, 8 of them have been classic and only one of them less then 3.years old. i learned to drive in. Rover P4, and learnt about old, hard crossplies in an Mg midget.

However. They do take a lot more effort to drive and for me Im not sure its worth it. they are also.. lets be polite..ineffective in a road accident. Although this says more about me then about classic cars

Yup, there used to be one near where I grew in in West London, was at the roundabout junction of the A40 and Kensington Road..
I used to cycle up there as a kid on my way to Northolt swimming baths. Are they still there?
No.

Well, not the one you and I went to in our youth. That was demolished about 6 or 7 years ago and a new multi-use community centre/pool/gym complex built in it's place.

Yup, there used to be one near where I grew in in West London, was at the roundabout junction of the A40 and Kensington Road. The cars used were a handfull of Series V/VI Hillman Minx's. Local TrafPlod used to make a lot of use of it as well, as well as being open to Joe Public.
It closed down in the mid 70's as that bit of land it occupied was earmarked for part of the re-modeling of the A40 across that junction into a sort of flyover.
I walked past there very frequently going from Northolt to Greenford , there is quite a bit on google http://archive.motorsportmagazine.com/article/apri...

We should start a new thread on "Do you allow the SWMBO behind the wheel!"

Luckily the XKSS has no seat adjustment, so her teeny legs don't reach the pedals! I did sit her in the E-type but she panicked just at the sight of that long bonnet!
Mrs D won't even drive my Alfa 75, at least I know that if I got a "proper" old car she wouldn't want to get her dainty paws on it.

John D... Classic appliances? Another story altogether. Oh the joy of owning a classic Frigidaire or Prestcold!! and yes, the older Bendix washers would last for ever. I seem to remember that when the poshest people in our neighborhood bought a Bendix the installation work involved concreting the thing into the ground.

But I stand by what I said about modern cars. You can't really fault even the worst of them but they are just machines to operate. Go back about 10 years and they come with heart & soul built in!

Passed my car test in 1969, and three weeks later bought my first car, a Lotus 7 (I was obsessed with owning one)... 2 years later I became a Dad, and the Lotus was replaced with a 1275 Cooper S. I firmly believe it was driving these (not at the time) classics that made me the driving God I have become.

No really..... wink
