2 early Bahamas Gold cars coming up for auction on Sept 3rd

this UK car Suffix A car looks amazingly unbastardised in particular the interior, and it will be interesting to see how much it goes for...no reserve and guide £7-10k.

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23594/lot/401/

the one in Paris on the other hand perhaps looks q a lot for a later D with a slightly odd interior

an In Vogue has just come up for sale. although rather a shame they cant spell it properly

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PROJECT-FOR-SALE-1981-RA...

£15k..restoration project

or £32k for the one at Graeme Hunt thats referred to earlier in this thread and is immaculate

I like a project but still, I doubt you could get this done for £17k could you?
The one at Graeme's is mine. When that one cropped up on EBay I was somewhat flabbergasted. It's a wreck!

Has it sold yet?

Please say it has, I keep looking at it whilst half pissed trying to work out how to fit it into the fleet.

I believe it's under offer. I'll be sad to see it go but my search for a new weekend house with garaging is two years in and no signs of fruition so some cars had to go. frown

Cats on the exhaust - mine's a 94 LSE so came with cats. I tend to present at MOT running on lpg.
Do I need a cat on a replacement system?
I understood that I did as it had one from new but that has been disputed. Anyone know?

I want to try and trace the history of an early 4 door 1982 that was special order black

Would any customer have been able to request a non std paint??

I am aware the RAF for instance had some black ones for ceremonial duties. Also possibly the SAS

Apart from writing to DVLA is there anything else I can do ?

Thx for any knowledge / advice

there have been some interesting project cars on eBay lately which have looked quite cheap to me - but what do I know! I saw this 1980 2 door when it first came up, called the vendor who was spectacularly unhelpful. I was trying to understand why his photos showed a later interior... subsequently I worked out he had mixed his photos up and they were of a different car.. some people just cant help themselves. It went for £1500. A few weeks later and it has popped up at a dealer..fair play to them. Who doesnt like a 2 door in tuscan blue

http://www.heritagevehiclesales.com/vehicles/uk/19...

meanwhile what about £700 for a fairly rare early 4 door in silver..obviously a project but a complete car for that money that in some respects is rarer than a 2 door. OK its not an In Vogue, but really??

the DVLA used to do a service where you send a fiver to the "fee paying unit" asking for all the previous histiory and they'll send back copies of all their known V5 documents. Theeir history is a bit patchy pre 1986 (I think its 86: when they went to computers anyhow) but they have solid information afterwards.

Yup. Market peaked last year and has spent all of this year on a breather. Key parts are hitting new highs on EBay and selling which suggests plenty of people are working on personal projects but I think a lot of the fast buck projects are being ditched which is what we have been seeing dropping into the market steadily this year. Projects which would have cost 20-30k to complete and sell in a market where the price is probably 20-30k are being sold off.

That grey 4 door looks great. Early 80s 4 doors are climbing in value well.

Also, JLR Heritage are putting lots of rare parts back into production as well as backing the firms and specialists who are currently remanufacturing parts so in about 24 months these cars are going to become much easier to restore properly.

I have had my eye out for one for a while and the prices have risen whilst 2 doors and later 4 doors have stalled or fallen back.

I have a v nice later 4 door which is the nicest driving standard Classic I have driven since they were contemporary. It felt too good to relegate to the bin wagon but I sort of regret it now as I fancied an early manual 4 door for my daily local car however prices have firmed up a bit too much for my man maths calculator.

That early 4 door reminds me of one my Dad bought for £50 in the late nineties. I was an MOT fail, but still running, we swapped the 3 spoke alloys with decent tyres onto our '79 2 door - they were a big improvement on the original steelies. Then removed the bull bar which was sold for £100 and sold the rest of the car on for £50.

Still do it and as you say it's a fiver

I hope it's got an interesting history! ....

That would be fantastic! The perfect vehicle for a drive to the Iranian Embassy.... Not sure why they would spec wood door cappings though!

That silver one is very high spec. But for the fact the door cappings don't have inlay, I'd say that was an In-Vogue

I will be intrigued to see what it goes for given how similar it is to mine;

there is no chance of it being SAS as it doesnt have any of the extra stuff like internal rollcage but maybe it was RAF or Army..the car was first delivered to a Guildford garage and the RAF definitely had at least one black RR around this time for ceremonial duties...flag on the bonnet, visiting dignatories etc

it actually went for £699. no doubt needs plenty of work...clearly worth far more than that though in parts. Is that Sierra Silver...does look good with the rostyles

Are you in Clapham or is that just a nom de plume? I am in SW4 myself and would love to see your car whilst mine is under the surgeons knife at Twenty Ten.

PS i discovered a useful website yesterday, www.shiply.com seems extremely good value if you've had eBay fever and need a car collected

Hi. We're actually just across the way in Telford park these days but Abbeville Village is still our local high St. The car is usually around and we do use it a fair bit, albeit it is up with Jonathan Churchill at the moment having a bit of mechanical fettling. Hoping to have it back later this month. When it's back, I'll drop you a PM and we can meet for coffee and you can give it the once over. Yes, it is Sierra Silver by the way.

I am thinking of selling my 'J' reg 1991 Vogue (Non SE so doesn't have the bits that go wrong!)It a 4 owner car with 80,000 miles with a huge service history file. Very good original condition commensurate with its age (nice details like original dealer supplying number plates, window stickers etc) but not concourse. Plymouth Blue with Grey cloth interior.

Any ideas what its worth? is ebay the best route or a classic car auction?

I don't really understand auctions unless it's an X million pound car

To my mind eBay gives you better control of the process at a fraction of the cost

Most auctioneers get the details wrong as well eg wrong colour or mis described

eBay and carandclassic.com for my money. Can't help you on the value sorry
