Shame about the Cat D, but if the price reflects it, it could be a good buy.

Morning chaps.

Edd is working on my Classic today, and one of the tasks is to fit a new ignition module, so he's got the distributor out. He's just called me to say that there is quite a bit of lateral play in the distributor shaft itself, ie, side to side. I'm nowhere near him or the car so I haven't got quantification of "quite a bit" yet, but his concern is over whether or not this is affecting the air gap to the reluctor and hence spark strength.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

you can get cat D removed by paying for a specialist inspection..1 company is authorised by VOSA to do it. they check chassis alignment etc

Autolign check shows as "Condition Inspected" on HPI checks, you can't actually make reference to it disappear.

Remember Cat D won't be on the V5 anyway.

I believe "quite a bit" is acceptable. It might be less when it's back in and "in gear".
£100 from SimonBBC if in doubt. That includes a new amp too.

Afternoon chaps...

I have an option currently on a very late model (Nov 1995) 108in LSE 4.2 - 125k miles but only two owners. Last owner since 1997.

I'm a bit out of touch currently on their values, does anyone know what are the realistic price breaks for these currently in terms of Fair/Good/Mint?

Looked at a few ads online but asking prices seem all over the show.....

Cheers,

Jon

Wind noise - my LSE seems to have very little, if any, from around the door tops, but there's an awful lot which appears to be coming from around or ahead of the windscreen (rather than the A pillars). Just had a new roof header panel and windscreen fitted (which entailed removing the outer roof), and I'm satisfied that it's nothing to do with the fitment or sealing of the roof or windscreen - in fact, it's no better than it was before with a poorly-fitted screen rubber and a big lump of the header panel missing. Nothing else is obviously missing or misaligned, and there are no draughts.

Am I expecting too much? It's not too bad under 75-80, but it's spoiling things.

As is condition.

The very expensive ones on eBay seem to stay on eBay...

Appreciate that, just looking for an honest assessment of the market...

As in £2k fair, £10k in good condition, £15k mint.

I honestly have no idea, and before I go in blind, I'd be good to have a steer....

I think you'd be lucky to find much under £5k which doesn't need that spending again, even if it's just paint and cosmetics. A good solid car not needing imminent expenditure has to be worth nearer £10k.
