I bought this without papers from a salvage company. The idea at the time was i'd use some of the bodywork to restore my suffix B and sell the other parts

But after we found the vin plate inside I wrote to DVLA

Good news - a V5 would be issued. Even better news it's only got 3 prev keepers

It's a 1980 V reg and I'm now going to use this as my project car. Just because it seems wrong to modify a really early car that should really be "period correct". And the 80 has a bit more usability than the 73

Masai red obviously and will stay that way. Correct "tape" decals not raised letters

4.6 JE engine going in, already has an overdrive fitted

Full retrim and refurbed aircon system (factory option from 79)

The seats are right for the age and hardly worn but have some annoying fag burns so I think they'll go to Nationwide for leather as was done on the South African car that I didnt proceed with once I realised I wanted more of a project

Phil and team will be cracking on once the black 82 4 door is out of the way and done

SO

If anyone has interest in a 73B with v5 and heritage certificate; complete car that runs and drives albeit no MOT and needs some welding - let me know via PM before I put it on eBay in a few weeks. Currently red but was Davos White when new. No funny stories it's a genuine car that needs some love and will then be a solid investment. Currently in Bicester but will be going to Twenty Ten in Redditch

I am thinking of selling my 'J' reg 1991 Vogue (Non SE so doesn't have the bits that go wrong!)It a 4 owner car with 80,000 miles with a huge service history file. Very good original condition commensurate with its age (nice details like original dealer supplying number plates, window stickers etc) but not concourse. Plymouth Blue with Grey cloth interior.

Any ideas what its worth? is ebay the best route or a classic car auction?
Anything between £2-12k depending how many times you mention Prince Charles in your advert. Or maybe more if you can claim you once saw a VELAR. wink

2 early Bahamas Gold cars coming up for auction on Sept 3rd

this UK car Suffix A car looks amazingly unbastardised in particular the interior, and it will be interesting to see how much it goes for...no reserve and guide £7-10k.

the one in Paris on the other hand perhaps looks q a lot for a later D with a slightly odd interior

It looks homemade out of a few bits of 1" x 1", a sheet of hardboard and a handful of tacks?

Also, it's a French car so it's probably for the wife rather than the dog.

Was looking at this car again yesterday and a colleague was pointin out all the errors under the bonnet but we also wondered just why they had sprayed all the areas prone to rotting with that textured paint? I wonder how much metal there actually is under all of that?

Anyone noticed the 4 door in the Pandora advert?

Before anyone asks I noticed the car then had to watch to the end to find out what the advert was for.

I saw it the other day too, hopefully it has now arrived on Mrs SBs radar of acceptable old car.

Mind you she's not the best judge as she once said she liked the old estate car used in a Cath Kidston catalogue a bit ago, it was an Avenger!

After a few glasses of red I keep on coming back to pondering about what good value the Sith Ifrican Rangies look.

The only issue is that being thousands of miles away I wouldn't know where to start in getting one sourced from over there.

I don't suppose anyone knows of the best way to get one? I've seen some online but I'm not sure I like the idea of sending someone the cash and telling them to take it to the nearest container terminal.

My colleague has an absolutely mint one that he imported a few years ago.

We also did all the research and calculations for bringing panels and parts in as most of the old Rangies have already been stripped down by breakers.

The chap on the ground who was to source and oversea the filling of the containers is a scouser and a good chap. Your risk of importing from SA is that you think you're buying a car that's lived up on the velt but was is shipped is some rotten junk from the coast.

Mk1 Escort shells are also very available along with lots of other interesting things as the locals all want brand new Mercs as its now a new money economy.

But the cost of a container door to door meant it was only viable to fill it with other things to sell on.

nothing more "retro cool" than a RRC

interesting in the motorbike world everyone now wants a retro looking scrambler with off road capability (even if never used off tarmac)

cant help thinking the same trends are coming to cars

plus, every other readers letter to Autocar complains about modern car ride quality..

we know what hits the spot!

I really cant have a Range rover, I already have one expensive to run Rover v8 powered vehicle and I do way too many miles to be able to run one as a daily. So why do I still want one?

How much would a 'standard' one be though? All I can see from links to their website is one that looks to have been fettle do and was up for £12,500.

£15k..restoration project

or £32k for the one at Graeme Hunt thats referred to earlier in this thread and is immaculate

I like a project but still, I doubt you could get this done for £17k could you?
The one at Graeme's is mine. When that one cropped up on EBay I was somewhat flabbergasted. It's a wreck!

Wow!

At a very basic glance, the obvious full respray is £4k, replacement seat fabric £2k, replacement carpet set, £2k, hamper & straps £500-£1k, engine out, rebuild, refurb of engine bay to correct set up, £4-5k, refurb cappings £1k and then there is any welding up and mechanical work on top, plus labour. And finally, the new two tone stripes, which as we're the only people with sets: £1m smile

If that's being done to be sold on and they are paying near that asking then they have to be confident of getting over £50k for it to make it worth while.

The buyer of mine would be very happy if this one appears next year at that sort of price.
