Good evening all,

There is a slim possibility my RR will be off to Europe over Christmas.

As such I'm just running through a few small items just in case.

I am stuck on the windscreen wipers - both front and rear.

The wiper blades appear to be an old style with pin, quite unlike modern replacements and not stocked by halfords or my local Land Rover specialist.

Does anyone here have any pointers?

I bought the Halfords ones and spent five minutes in the car park faffing about transplanting the pins and lo they fit.

The ones I bought had the same holes stamped so the pins could be transplanted.

Many thanks for the quick reply!

I used the Halfords book to find the ones for 1989 and when I tried to fit them I realised they were too modern for my car but then realised I could remove the pin bits and fit them into the holes that still existed on the new ones.

Check in the car park that this is the case as it's easier to refund if not. smile

Annoyingly I only threw out the Halfords box for the wipers a few weeks ago or I'd take a photo for you.

was at Twenty Ten yesterday getting my project details sorted out and checking out a few bits and bobs

I had a purchasing flurry earlier in the year and now the dust has settled and the project(s) are clear I am in reverse gear, selling some cars

the silver Y reg 4 door is now on ebay.

meanwhile some ducking and diving...

a 3.5 v8 engine that came from a Defender forum and cost me £100. I think the early style cam covers are probably worth more than that, but I'm keeping this engine on the shelf for now

test fitted a CSK/LSE type wheel just to see what it would look like with silver...looks good I think

mocking up a darker grey thats a RAL colour not a Land Rover colour

an "interesting" bit of handy work on a car that shall remain anonymous...push fit plastic brake pipe junction anyone!

A couple of years ago I won an LSE on eBay that turned out to be a complete wreck when I went to get it - on the test drive a front brake pipe burst and the seller offered to fix it by putting a jubilee clip around it.

As it's a twin line system I wonder if the best actio is to clamp it off when that happens?

In theory, but I was already working out how to get back the station at that point.

You'd still have a long pedal and less powerful brakes whatever you did.

I just fitted a new set today. I bought the SP18's that the halford guide said were correct. They aren't and are in fact a different design to the ones I bought from Halfords last year but they still fit. You just pop out the plastic fitting to leave the metal frame and then I put the locating pin through the smaller of the two sets of holes and then into the fitting in the wiper arm.

Anyone after a 2 door?

I have just listed my 1981 green car on ebay. Reserve price is £2500

Lincoln Green originally but has been repainted at some stage.

lots of the original paint still visible on the interior

its a tatty but honest car that wouldnt be a bad starting point for a resto project. If I had more time and more cash thats exactly what I'd do but got my hands full with the 4 door and the red 1980 2 door.

it has the desirable overdrive fitted. Currently fitted with a Nissan 3 litre diesel engine, importantly though the engine mounts have not been bodged up and the car will also come with a slightly later era 3.5 EFI RR V8 engine as well

on its original rostyles and original seats (front seats have seen better days mind you)... dash has a few screw holes but other than that not too bad

Have 3.9 Vogue SE that is totally standard bar had air suspension removed for coils. Looks slightly too high to me. Was going to get air susPension put back on to make all original, but been persuaded against.

So question please. Who makes the best quality springs for road use and with car ride height mimicking motorway air suspension level? Was told anti roll bars perhaps a good idea from eibach?

I'd go with air, perfectly reliable when all the bits are in good order.

....Which is what I prefer as really love totally standard cars and suspension is only non-original part. Even stereo on mine is original. Flip flopping between both options now. Not a cost thing, just want a reliable car as per left factory. So assuming I don't get a whole heap of people on forum dissing air, any preferred supplier for kit to sort? Prefer quality and not cheapest.

I tend to agree with Nom, if it's a well maintained system then it should be fine. The concern I would have would be in regards to the age of the wiring loom and whether that was reaching or had reached being the cause of issues going forward. If I recall the system takes two readings from the car, so that means at least two potential weak points in the loom.

The real PIA for the system is that if it does get its knickers in a twist and drop down, finding someone nearby with the computer to reset it for you.

The EAS system is a pain in the arse, and things break quite frequently, however it rides fantastically !

Going to go air and if it turns out to be a pain, take off and box up so car can be made original if sold. Then go to plan A, being springs at motorway setting as per previous.

Any tips for quality air parts or do all come from same place ultimately?
