I was chatting with the chap who build this beauty a few years ago. From what he told me, the work involved was phenomenal because of all the engineering required to build a car from the ground up capable of 180mph+.
If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd buy it just for Sunday morning hoons and the occasional trip to the shops. Don't think you'll see many folk at Tesco's in an XJ13

I know it's a replica, but that still seems like a bargain for what 99% of people would think was a classic supercar.
Indeed, haven't followed the link yet to see which car it is, but have done quite a few miles and a lot of work on a Proteus XJ13, and it was a truly awe inspiring thing on every level. Just the sound of that V12 behind your head with four very short exhausts and open trumpets....I think the gearbox alone for that car cost the other side of £10,000, plus a dry sump engine, throttle bodies etc, etc, etc as well as everything else I dont see how you could build a good one for less than the cost of a decent series one E Type
Heretical I know but I really didn't get the XJ13 at all. I saw it demonstrated at Silverstone in the 70s and whilst my friends were all oohs and aaahs I thought it looked ridiculously big and terribly old school . I know Jaguar folk talked up how it would have won Le Mans etc but I suspect it would not have seen which way the GT40s went . Trouble is I feel the same about the much lauded XJ220...huge and with an engine that sounded like a concrete mixer. Sorry Jag fans but the classy ones for me are XK 150 and late XJ12s. E Type not included ? Sorry again.
