Perhaps not fully on message, however, there was a chap who took a standard V12 E 2+2 and resited the engine in the rear as a transverse driving the rear wheels. I recall an article on it some years ago. I am unsure if it was finished as he passed away and it was being sold by his wife. Someone with better sleuthing skills than I might be able to track the article and pictures down.

Back on topic - I raced in South Africa against a "Protea Jaguar". It was a bright red 1950's-looking aluminium 3.8-powered racecar. As soon as I can find the damn photo I'll post it!

In the meantime, here's a similar car:

1957 Protea

Actually I bought and still own the red Protea Jag which I hope to restore and possibly return to South Africa one day.
Id love to see an old photo of the car.

9 years later, I wonder if the rear lights on the above inspired the rear lights on the F-Type?

That looks like the Daimler XJS but not "the" one in the museum, which I thought was the only prototype. Can you tell us more please?

Out of interest, was the Banham XJS based on this?

One-of-a-kind Jaguar restored live by a team of specialists from Classic Motor Cars (CMC), the 1954 XK120 by Pinin Farina.

Why do they have Pininfarina as two words?

Because Pininfarina was founded by Battista "Pinin" Farina. The Pinin being his known nick name meaning smallest or youngest. The company was founded as Carrozzeria Pinin Farina, later becoming Pininfarina. If I recall Battista changed his name to Battista Pininfarina some years later.

Italian Pininfarina designed UK 60s cars were called 'Farina BMC cars'.

Because at the time that the car was built that was the correct name of the company, which did later change to being one word.
It's a bit like the way we insist on calling Autocar "The Autocar" if we are referring to the magazine pre-1962 (or whenever it was).
Or Sir Stirling Moss now and Stirling Moss back in the day before he was knighted.
Or even referring to ourselves as Classic and Sportscar for our own early years and Classic & Sports Car for more recent stuff after the name change.
Yes, we are very sad and pathetic, and it is all small beer, but these things are important to us and, we hope, to a few people out there.
And those few people will hopefully appreciate and respect that we care to this sad degree and that is pretty much all that matters.
Oh, my life...

Finally. I waited for this car to re-appear into a public for some time now. Shame the pictures are so small and the owner appears to gone for red though. Still I love that so many "lost" one-offs have re-appeared/been recreated in recent times.

I had no idea it had ever been two words ...

Referring to things correctly is important. The times my son texts the word 'your' when he means 'you are' annoys me - but to him it is no great deal. I can't text without using the correct grammar and punctuation.

Always THE Sunday Times, never the Sunday Times (or the Times) ...

God, I'm dull!

Skip some freaky pointless design elements and IMO for a 2004 hipo car it looks just fine.

Seen on Lukas Huni's stand at Techno Classica Essen in the Spring.

It was built on a 1954 XK120 after California enthusiast and racer Bob Dahl tried to buy a C-type and was told they were sold out. He contacted Microplas and they exported a glassfibre body via Sports Car Engineering. After several events Dahl trashed the car at the track, of course, and it was tucked away in the late 1950s, finally revived in the early 1990s and then campaigned extensively in the States and Europe until it had a full restoration post-millennium, being finished in 2004.
Interesting thing.
