I assumed the Jabekke runs referred to were in the 1950s. That's a much more recent shot. Was the 182mph run a recent thing?
We all went in 1998 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Soapy Sutton's run when he did 124mph in the XK120. They took the hood and screen off and it did over 130 mph!On the day though we were only allowed to do standing quarter miles. They had closed the motorway for us but it was all a bit tame. Win Percy had a good run in a D type and the XJ13 stormed off driven by Norman Dewis.
Guy Broad did his run at Bruntingthorpe I think.

h right, interesting thanks. So what's the story behind the authenticity of the XK displayed at Hampton Court?
I have never seen another replica apart from Guy Broad's one. I think that he had a tuned 3.8 engine and a Getrag five speed but incredibly tall rear axle ratio. Perhaps worth asking Guy as whoever built it and it may even have been Guy, may have gone to him for help.I have just remembered how angry everyone was with the time/speed keeping at Jabbeke. They said that the police were stationed at the finish point to take everyone's speed as they crossed the finish line. We were looking at the paperwork afterwards and Win Percy who had been driving Penny Woodley's D Type seemed quite please that he had been recorded at over 160.
On closer examination I could see that the figure was actual in KPH and all the officials had done was to give us the average speed over the distance, which was fairly meaningless!

I'd been looking for my pictures of this car too from a CKL trackday a few years back. I can't remember the driver's name but he was very helpful with trying to sort out the tyre pressures for my XK150 which was causing me loads of grief in the wet.Absolutely superb car. Goes like stink.

Yes I know that technically it isn't actually a Jaguar but a "powered by Jaguar" but who cares, they're very nice.

He's called Spike Milligan. Absolutely top bloke and really went the extra mile for one of Mission Motorsport's beneficiaries.Yes I know that technically it isn't actually a Jaguar but a "powered by Jaguar" but who cares, they're very nice.
