Apparently someone in the USA called Howard Lutnick has had XKSS701 (morphed from XKD555) made into a replica of Steve McQueen's car, i.e. no luggage rack, no side windows and a tonneau cover rolled up behind the seats. I think I prefer the 'standard' look. Nice registration number though: XKS 5.
Presumably the new owner had the nose re-modelled as well. It was damaged back in period in (if I remember correctly) Argentina. The then owner had a local panel beater repair it and while they did the best job they could, the nose's profile wasn't quite right. Tony if the new owner of 701 is trying to look like Steve McQueen's car you could offer to sell him the parts of the original McQueen car
I only have the front and rear bumpers, but he can have them if he wants - for a price. But why on earth he would want to change it I don't know. I mean, after all, we know it isn't the real thing, and nor is mine either. Seems a pity to do that to what is already an important car. Still, it's his money I guess. However, I wonder if he'll spot that the car has two DCO3 carbs and one DCO4? I may have recently posted this but anyway, creating more XKSS models is very easy for Jaguar. While there were but six E-type chassis numbers set aside the XKSS series is fraught with the shenanigans that prevailed in the day. Jaguar needed to make 50 XKSS's to homologate, so it was easy for them. The chassis sequence goes XKSS 701, 704, 707, 710 and so on, and like that "Number 50" would soon be made So if Jaguar want to make more there are all those gaps to fill in to start with.
But to return to the basis of the thread. There are but two companies in the world making XKSS replicas AFAIK, (I stand to be corrected) and both make alloy cars at around £250/300,000. If you want a Realm XKSS, then there are very few around and scarcity pushes up prices. Beggars can't be choosers unfortunately. In the day the XKSS was considered somewhat of a bastardised D-type and we all wanted a D, not an XKSS. Now opinions have changed, and if you want one, you have to pay the price. It's market forces, and we can do nothing about it. So we now have a minimum ball park figure of £70,000ish it seems.

It'll have adjustable shock absorbers so ride height is easily adjustable and the rather strange cross beams are the outriggers for the body. It has a tubular space frame chassis throughout (near enough the same as a TVR) as opposed to the semi monocoque of an original.Edited by jagracer on Saturday 4th July 22:05
