having had a 4.3 Griff for about 2-3 years I'd say that one might be cheap to buy and more expensive to own and if it doesn't have the correct tyres or they're old and hard from age and lack of use and/or old suspension bushes then it'll be all over the road especially on country roads

how about split the difference and look at a TVR V8S (if you can find one)

We have had the 'pastiche' TVR S mentioned, how about the original 3000S from the late 1970s? I don't regret buying mine, though with around 60 left in the UK finding one might be tricky.

If you fancy a Griff but are worried that you'll be buying in at the rough end then try a Chimaera. I've owned both and spent a while searching for them to find there was a big variation out there. You'd get a really good Chim for your budget and if you use a buyers guide, ( see TVR car club ), you shouldn't go far wrong. For me the 450 and 500 models are worth the extra money and if you buy well you can get one with all the right bits having already been done. Found both mine to be quick, practical, reliable, noises, exiting, comfortable, cheap to run etc

Good luck!

Have you heard of the work that Frontline can do with a K series and a Spridget?
Won't be too far away from the Westfield performance wise, but in classic clothing.

Yes, I am looking at 914's too! I think that not having my heart set on a certain make/model is a good idea, if something comes up that is clean and good value and meets my requirements I will buy it.
A very good choice of much underestimated car. Simple mechanicals, funky looks, fun to live with and very reliable. Though do buy a 2.0litre engine as the 1.7 units are under powered which makes the car a little too Beetle-esque. Ideally, they all need a flat-six in them to match their superb handling.
