Hey folks,

Just thought I'd start a topic about my latest purchase, a GT Junior.

I've wanted a GTA for years but have watched the prices rise and rise so knew I would have to go down the built route not an original. The fact I want to race it too meant that the thought of binning £100k of GTA would be at the back of my mind at every turn!

I broke up and sold as parts my last racer, a Subaru, a couple of years ago so I've been without a track car for a wee while. The urge was increasing and I was looking here and Racecarsdirect on a near daily basis.

Anyway, a little while ago a car came up that I just had to have. It was all the right spec and looked just the ticket. Its not exactly local but will be here in a month or two and once here I'll be able to get using it!

In the meantime some pics;

The car will be going to Alfaholics in Feb so I'll have a few wee improvements made then and made road legal.

Can't wait to get it!

Looks like New Zealand to me, it's advertised in this month's New Zealand Classic car magazine and, by the look of the advert listing, it already has a fair few Alfaholics bits on it wink

Hi Colin! I was trying to work out who you were but spotted that you still have the Z3 Breadvan!
I'm good thanks. Very busy with work but I'll nver complain about that.

I hope you're keeping well?

Thanks for the comments on the car.

I'm hoping to run it in SMRC at Knockhill initially and take it from there. I'm not overly well off for time so that's going to be my big restriction. Let's see how I get on with it and what its eligible for.

Oh and it is the NZ car. It's being containerised in a few weeks and then on the boat over and arriving end Feb.

It'll go to Alfaholics for a full spanner check and a couple of tweaks for UK use. Theyre also going to look at the possibility of making it road legal and assuming it's not too difficult I'll get that done.

It was originally a UK car, delivered to Alfa Romeo UK in London so it's nice to know in bringing it back home. smile

What engine do you have in there? There's another GT Junior in the SMRC events at Knockhill running a highly developed 2 litre engine and lots of trick suspension.

That's Richard Merril, AKA MeanRedSpider, I don't think he raced last year though and I'm not sure he wil get back into that series.

That Junior looks lovely and I'm sure you will have lots of fun with her. cool

Yeah the spec should see me through.

I'll start with some trackdays to get used to the car and then the Superlap Scotland which is a sprint series at Knockhill. If I feel sufficiently at home in the car then it'll be into some SMRC Sports and Classics races and get my licence put to good use!

The car was built to race in the NZ Trofeo series and I suspect that relies upon the cars having an "interior". In the SMRC that is not a requirement so any unnecessary weight will be shed. However, I am not adding much lightness myself with my 'featherweight' 105 kilo frame. Need to do something about that... biggrin

Very tasty junior. Have a look at per einarsson's giulia for some inspiration on how to deal with the rear seat area for a road/race giulia.

Have fun

Such a shame it's not further south!

I've just bought a well-developed Sprint GT that's being recommissioned right now. I hope to be out in either the HSCC to the HRDC on the 4/5th April.

It would have been good to have another Alfa newcomer to pit myself against (although I presume the reference to the Subaru suggests that it wouldn't be your novice season).
