Why is every classic car I look at.........
Discussion
Classic car enthusiasts are a small percentage of the population, within these enthusiasts you have groups, American cars Italian cars, pre-war british cars etc. etc. Within these groups you have sub groups which only lust after one particular make and therefore the chance of you finding the car of your dreams within a 20 mile radius is only slightly less than getting the 6 balls coming up.

I must admit that after buying well over 50 used cars, they tend to be "bloody miles away" from Yorkshire, as my nearest & dearest often points out.
The furthest one was a BMW M635CSi that was near Banff in the north of Scotland - what a (36hr) trek that was!
I was looking for a usable '80s hot hatch last year and luckily found a 1984 one-owner VW Golf GTi about 4 miles from my house in Sheffield - so there is a God!
Have you still got the Golf? The furthest one was a BMW M635CSi that was near Banff in the north of Scotland - what a (36hr) trek that was!

Always partial to seeing a nice early GTI.
Due to the wonders of the interweb, I managed to buy a mint Golf G60.
It was on Swiss Ebay!
Was a bit of an adventure collecting that one!

Still got the GTi and I reckon it's a keeper as I'll probably never find anything like it again for sensible dough.
I was looking for a late 5 door model but when I saw this and looked at the history I had to have it!
A few pics. Thanks to it's fastidious first owner it really does look like it's 1 year old, not 30.
Christ, that Golf is the mutts ... my dad bought an E-reg one new in white.
For me, it's either Scotland or Cornwall. I had lined up a lovely red 944 to go see 18 months ago - it was on the north Cornwall coast and miles from friggin' anywhere - had the train times all sorted etc - lots of pics and phone calls with the owner. Then a lovely 944 came up 90 miles east of me. lot easier to go see - indeed, went the same day - had to have it - and then had to ring the guy in Cornwall ... not nice.

Classics, d'you say? Yorkshire, d'you say? Oop 'ere we get our use from them!
This is from our local rag's "oh my god it's snowing, we're all going to die" thread this morning:
I think it's near Ainley Top roundabout, Huddersfield.
Another fool who can't be bothered to clear the snow off his car before driving off. This is from our local rag's "oh my god it's snowing, we're all going to die" thread this morning:

It's obviously to do with population distribution! Distances are a problem, but the classics I've had have been local, and there are quite a few enthusiasts up here in sunny North East Scotland! I had a Rover P4 110 bought in Forres (en route to Inverness) which I ran for around eight years. I also resurrected the worst Triumph TR4A in the world, sourced in a free ads paper. It was a few miles from Aberdeen and immediately tried to kill me and my pal who was driving the Range Rover and trailer combo when we jack knifed on the dual carriageway, mercifully in an interval clear of refrigerated fish juggernauts and supermarket pantechnicons! A bit of a digression, I know, but patience often pays off if you're looking for cars. Just picked up Mazda MX5 no.2 from Banff, mentioned by a previous respondent who grumbled about distances - it's all relative!
