Help - looking for our old AMR transporter
Discussion
It features in racing car transporters book Inside The Paddock (page 238). It's described as being based on a Ford R226 coach chassis, body by Tiverton. Purchased March 1968.
I can't quite make out the entire registration, ??X 217F, possibly XVX 217F - which doesn't appear to show up on a check of DVLA.

Hi Tom, sorry a bit off topic, don't suppose you would have any pictures of, or happen to know what happened to, the Jag Mk 1 historic touring car your father built a few years back? I saw it a few times in the flesh and can honestly say it is one of the most beautifully prepared cars I've ever seen - my father tried to buy it at the autosport auction unfortunately to no avail, and I haven't seen a thing of it since!

I believe that it is, or at least was. a bedford vam14 duple viceroy (google images show a few that look identical)
This is the area of coachbuilt vehicles; I think you're correct that the Duple Viceroy coachwork is similar, and so much so that it's a good bet that the AMR transporter was bodied by Duple, but on a Ford chassis rather than Bedford?Edited by cahami on Wednesday 28th January 20:17

it cannot be a Bedford Vam14 as it has ten stud wheels.Edited by cahami on Wednesday 28th January 20:17
Vams only had eight stud wheels, its not until the later (1970 on) mid engine YRQ came out that they went to ten stud wheels (and air brakes etc)
it is Duple front section though, but the rest may have been done by someone else.
I used to have a Vam converted race transporter, so have many 'happy' hours of heaving the blooming wheels on and off it!!

I don't I'm afraid - it went back to Don Law who made it... that's where my knowledge runs out!tjmann said:

Was this the Anthony Reid car?
No it was in the Alan Mann colours, built by Don Law for Alan to run in the Goodwood Revival, however shelved in favour of the Ford Pop Anglia that was recently sold I believe to James Martin. I'm not sure whether the Jag was ever used in anger, however I saw it at the Silverstone Classic some years ago in a Jag parade, and subsequently spent a good 15 minutes crawling all over it in the paddock - to say it was as good as new would be an understatement! Would love to own it one day (if it's still about!)Chunkychucky said:

the reg number is YVX 217F
its a good mystery this, as the only photos on the internet appear to be the one black and white one, and a handful of colour ones taken at spa in 1968
its not on the dvla computer, so its been off the road since the late 1970's
Considering it was only built in 67/68 it is strange it did not exist beyond the the late 70s maybee a plate change? sadly the person who knows what happened to it may not be around to tell the story, but i hope the mann family find it, or if not recreate it it would look good in the paddock at goodwood.its a good mystery this, as the only photos on the internet appear to be the one black and white one, and a handful of colour ones taken at spa in 1968

Very helpful thanks to all. We wanted to try and find it as we're going a bit retro for the 2015 race season - proper stopwatches & clipboards, mechanics in the 60s teamwear, that sort of thing. Would much rather have a period transporter than the Mercedes sprinter we have now, but looks like we'd have to build one - which would be quite punchy!
