Rover,
Have a long association with Daimlers and Lanchesters. Dad had nearly one of every model from 1932 onwards.over the years. He was a friend of Ben Mason ( i used to work there for 'pennies' when i was about 8 ) I had a Conquest Century in 1966 and kept it for 4 years when pending marriage and 20 mpg forced its sale. Still miss the old girl. now looking to get another, but woul also like an LD10,DB18, Consort and a straight 8. Mrs Fox is going mental everytime i mention it, as she knows i wont sell the Royce ( 90 Spirit 11) but i might if the right car came along
My first family Daimler was my father's 2 1/2 litre saloon back in the early 1970's. I had one myself in the 1980's followed by an SP250 which I stupidly sold, the only car I regret selling. I knew I had made a mistake as it drove off. Next Daimler was another SP bought in 2006 which I still have although it gets little use and I'm in two minds what to do with it. I had a Conquest for a couple of years, my first experience with the fluid flywheel pre-select gearbox. What an excellent device! That went and a year or so ago I had a bad itch for something pre-war. I came close to getting a 1929 Humber, not as nice as this one but more original http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C545568
but even the owner was having trouble with the crash box which but me off a bit. I've driven a couple of crash box cars before and this seemed much worse so perhaps something not quite right. I heard about the E20 through the club and loved it. So smooth to drive and it'll cruise at 55mph so not too slow.
If you fancy a Daimler or Lanchester it's best to ask around in the Club first, ask here if you aren't already a member http://www.dlcentre.com/forum/
It's often the case that owners have half a mind to sell so when asked by another club member they will do so but aren't sufficiently motivated to advertise their cars. I sold my first SP like that, I just let it be known I was considering selling and received a phone call and the deal was done at a decent price. Plus that way you usually get a 'known' car rather than one that's been punted round the dealers for ages, increasing by a few thousand pounds each time.

I dream of a pre-war Bentley. The best I've managed so far is a Daimler E20. There's something about pre-war cars that gets under your skin.

I know what you mean ,its the interiors for me and the smell of old leather. I don't have a period car but I always spend time at the Car shows with the owners who obviously take great pride in their cars.

However she likes the 2.5 V8 Jaimler, nd i forgot to add a lancheter 14 in my list as well..
I might swing her around as she did shell out for the set of 'Daimler Days' for Xmas

Good call Roy but the 3 litre with the Supercharger does it for me !
Sureley you mean the 4 1/2 litre blown Bentley

I thought he meant the first blown Bentley: in early 1927 the Bentley factory service department fitted a Roots type supercharger (for it's racing driver owner, May Cunliffe) to 3-litre chassis 220 (registration FR5189). The first Birkin "Blower" 4½-litre cars did not appear until 1929.

The unique red 3 litre supercharged car appeared in Brian Johnson's "Cars That Rock."
The blown 3 litre's new to me. I bow to your superior knowledge. Does it still exist?

If anyone has never been to a VSCC event can I recommend it hugely ? The cars , the noise , the smell of Castrol R are addictive and the people make the typical, err , petrolhead(hate that expresssion ) look like a dilettante. They rag the arse off the cars and meetings are very accessible- none of that taped off area for junior's bloody Ginetta like you see at BTCC meetings

Yep VSCC trials are a fabulous mix of Petrolhead enthusiasm, great camaraderie and what feels like a very eccentrically English approach to 'motorsport'. It's ridiculous really. But brilliant all the same.
Ben's Bentley saloon is always a highlight...
