Anyone think the Z4M is future classic? Absolutely love the look of them.
Yup, prices are already firming up for the good ones. Z4MC is going to be a classic, as last ever 6 cyl n/a M-car.

911 is great but the potential for a money pit is vast.

I wouldn't touch an Integrale as you'd end up wanting to use it less than the Sunbeam, given some of the parts problems etc., and that's before the mention of rust on the ones that aren't already garage queens.

Same for E30 M3.

Same for Lotus-Carlton.

The reason I sold my Sunbeam-Lotus after 16 years ownership was it wasn't getting used enough - 500 miles a year was pointless. Still miss it though in many ways - although mine did get abused when it did venture out of the garage biggrin

was having a chat with a friend last night who has owned e30 m3 and said it was a bit fragile when used hard. Currently got a 911 gt2 but would have another m3csl tomorrow. Rates it v highly and values are creeping up

If you want to use something hard on track etc., I would stay away from anything that is going to go up in value, as unless you are not concerned with any future 'investment' potential, there's no point in removing any potential future value now by lots of abuse.
Picking something like a nice, but not minty, ordinary E46 M3 or even E36 M3, to abuse would be a better bet than a much less numerous Z4MC or CSL or E30 M3 (unless it's already in track-slag condition)

I can understand the lust for a 911 though, especially a 964 or earlier one, but again, values are already skyrocketing on these.

No id probably only do a couple of easy trackdays a year at most somewhere like blyton. Ive done nothing but trackdays for about 10yrs now in a variety of cars so it would just be owners club type days occasionally. Main use would be summer evening runs in Derbyshire and odd weekend away, wales or Scotland having a drive around

I would seriously consider the Z4MC then if you like them. I looked at getting one before I got the 135i as at the time I wasn't needing a car for commuting, and did like them, although being not a spring chicken any more, entry and exit was a tad undignified laugh I went and looked at a few and was still toying with the idea, when a change of job meant needing a car for a daily 60-70 mile commute, so the Z4MC idea got swiftly liked into touch in favour of the 135i instead.

We're firmly in to "moderns" territory now, apart from that 911 - I thought budget was 20-30 though - but it does look fantastic. A CSL will be money in the bank, but I would have thought top ones already blow your budget.

If you're going recent modern a Maserati Gransport is well worth a look. I'd say 3200 as well but you could three for the budget. I reckon a mint 3200 will be highly desirable at some point, they are no way near as scary to run as people think, and good ones are rare, much rarer than the 4200/Coupé.

mmm another leftfield suggestion! :-)

budget was 20-30k, but realistically until i see something nice in that range i have to look at anything from 20-40k to get an overview. i have seen a couple of interesting 911s now in the range and also a grey M3 CSL which as people are suggesting could well be money in the bank longer term and certainly not drop while owned for a year or two.
