I would say that engine work was almost inevitable, not just common with the 964 due to oil leak issues.
I also wouldn't get too hung up on wanting a 993 C2 over the C4 model. The C4 doesn't drive bad at all, and was made in lesser numbers.
7 years ago when I got mine my criteria was for red, speed yellow or flat black, with the varioram engine. I got a car with good miles in good condition, there wasn't that many around to choose from to be picky about it being a C2 or C4.

looking very similar here for me, and again very few to choose from at present. may be a long search ahead, but enjoyable hopefully. I also wouldn't get too hung up on wanting a 993 C2 over the C4 model. The C4 doesn't drive bad at all, and was made in lesser numbers.

any recommendations for classic porsche insurance? going to ring footman james later who insure my Sunbeam
I have been insured for the past few years with a broker based up in Kendal, they keep getting taken over / merging / changing their name. They were originally Peart, then Central Bespoke and now part of a big group called Marsh.
They have always been good, and my dad has insured his 993 turbo with them for the past 10 or 15 years.

I am fortunate, I have an October 1995 car so it is one of the first varioram cars with the closer ratio box.
(Back in 1996 my dad went from a 964 to a pre varioram 993, didn't like the power delivery so got a varioram one instead which he much preferred - I never drove either car so cannot comment)
