I would say that engine work was almost inevitable, not just common with the 964 due to oil leak issues.

I also wouldn't get too hung up on wanting a 993 C2 over the C4 model. The C4 doesn't drive bad at all, and was made in lesser numbers.

7 years ago when I got mine my criteria was for red, speed yellow or flat black, with the varioram engine. I got a car with good miles in good condition, there wasn't that many around to choose from to be picky about it being a C2 or C4.

I have been insured for the past few years with a broker based up in Kendal, they keep getting taken over / merging / changing their name. They were originally Peart, then Central Bespoke and now part of a big group called Marsh.

They have always been good, and my dad has insured his 993 turbo with them for the past 10 or 15 years.

I also wouldn't get hung up on varioram. A pre vario with close ratio gearbox would be smooth all the way to 7000rpm. I don't think many people could tell the difference between 272 and 285 horsepower!

I am fortunate, I have an October 1995 car so it is one of the first varioram cars with the closer ratio box.

(Back in 1996 my dad went from a 964 to a pre varioram 993, didn't like the power delivery so got a varioram one instead which he much preferred - I never drove either car so cannot comment)
