Was wondering if my Mums old mini has survived the ravages of time. It was one of the early ones with the starter button on the floor and the whole seat hinged forward to allow back seat access. Reg was 99905LJ. The old MG as well.LFX162R.

Possibly yes. It was a long time ago and yes you are right. Too many digits. Christ I'm getting senile!

too many digits, surely it would have been 4 numbers then 2 letters?

Must have been 9905LJ then. Could have sworn it was triple 9 , but as I say, it was a long time ago and I was just a little kid. Fond memories of the car though. Was pale blue in colour with vinyl seats that had a sort of snakeskin look to them as I recall.

I think you do - my Mum's mini had the same. It said Austin Seven on the boot, magic wand gear lever, starter on the floor, sliding windows, visible door hinges. It had a little switch on the side of the central speedo binacle that switched on a light that illuminated the parcel shelf. It also had tiny toggle switches at the top of the rear bins in each side that operated tiny bulbs that lit up the bins.
