shipping a classic into Kenya, can anyone help?
Discussion
Lads, I'm thinking of importing a classic into Kenya, but have been stymied by the rules, I think!
I have exported from the UK/imported into Kenya before, but modern stuff. The rules say that anything 7 years old and newer is OK to go in, but what are the rules on a 20,30 or even 40 year old classic?
As far as I can see, there's no way of doing this, does any know in Pistonheadland??

I`ve had a look and your right,no car over eight years old is allowed into Kenya??? I did not know that!!
Last time I was there I saw quite a few 404 & 504 Peugeot`s that were well past their sell buy date.
I cant give any sensible advice but I`m sure being Africa there is always a fiddle going on??

Hi I think you may be struggling on this, my brother in law lives in Uganda and he is having the same problem with a 10 year old Land Rover.
It seems to be part of East Africa'small attempt to be more environmentally friendly thus banning older vehicles is part of the plan.
Existing vehicles are ok but are being discouraged to keep going if they are heavy polluters.

can't help with Kenya but just a general thought - i struggled with similar when attempting to take vehicles into Trinidad.
detailed and extensive scrutiny of their regs eventually found a special import licence for "Antique Vehicle". The usual restrictions now limit imports to cars less than 3 yrs old and commercials to 7 yrs but "antiques" (vehicles 25 yrs and older) are allowed to be imported and the duty is reduced by as much as 80% in some circumstances

My advice is to ring the Kenya Revenue. I've had to call them a few times about various things (not directly related to cars, but certainly involving importing) and they've always been quite helpful once you get through to the right person. Probably best to invest in one of those international calling cards though.
