Becoming a little deafened by alarm bells here.
Where to start ...
"Professional Auto Appraisal" which reads more like a sales brochure than an objective appraisal. The appraisal appears to have been conducted by someone with no previous experience of Aston Martin and a valuation based on Price Guides and the Internet. The valuation is for a "1960 ASTON MARTIN DB4GT ZAGATO" which this car is not.
An implied association with the Sultan of Brunei where no substantial association between him and this car seems to exist. Interestingly, the seller's own website says of The Sultan's cars, "THESE MODERN INTERPRETATIONS WERE SKETCHED OUT SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SULTAN MIMICKING THE 1961 RACE CAR WHICH WAS SENT TO TURIN AND BODIED BY SPECIALIST COACHBUILDER ZAGATO. OF THE ORIGINAL 19 BUILT, EACH SHARE THE TITLE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE ASTON MARTIN." All 19 share a single title? I am confused (easily done ...)
They claim to have "nearly 40 years of title and ownership history". The oldest title document (dated 1987) has a very convenient hole in it which obliterates the car's ID. The Texan title is for an "Asto" not an Aston. It also says it is a replica.
This same car was listed on eBay in 2012 by a "Houston car collector" (the same owner as now?). He bought the car in 2005 less engine and then carried out the work described in this current listing. He was asking $1.2 million when he listed it on eBay in 2012. Seems it didn't sell. Maybe because the owner of DB4GT chassis #101 objected? The owner's so-called "unencumbered title" (obtained in 2013 just after the car was listed on eBay) is for a "Replica Asto" whatever one of those is.
Having said all that, it does look gorgeous.
It may not be a DB4GT Zagato (as the listing title states) but Shapecraft in the UK certainly know what they are doing and the resulting car looks superb. It should command a high price for the quality of workmanship alone. I see the sellers wrongly describe it as a DB4GT Zagato on their own website too and are asking $2.4m. A bit optimistic in my opinion ...
