Well at least they are being preserved so a that a future owner can enjoy them.

I had a bad day yesterday. One of those days when I was just a sullen curmudgeon for long periods, and nobody was my friend. I have days like that - rather akin to Churchill's "black dog".

Looking back, I have no idea why I started the post in the first place. Just a juvenile "oooh he's got something wrong" I suppose. Certainly not enough to post a personal put-down. No doubt some junior production assistant prepared the notes he read from, but I was disappointed he didn't immediately notice something wrong and correct it as he spoke. Trivial, I know.

My unreserved apologies to all PH members, and to Chris himself, as I understand he visits these pages from time to time.

PS Chris - you paid waaaayyyy too much for the Coburn California - I'll take it off your hands for a couple of grand.

My coat was collected and carried some considerable time ago.........
Having listened to the whole programme, whilst he did indeed state that it was a 1967 XKSS when he should have said it was a 1957 XKSS, as others have already said here, the Mercedes was described as a 1970 Mercedes Pagoda not a 1977 (and then Clarkson mentions that it is a 280 Pagoda, and that all of the pagoda's are probably the prettiest car Mercedes ever made, and then corrects himself to say that they are definitely the prettiest Mercedes ever made).

So lets review your problem with Chris Evans here:

In the middle of a live show, with everything going on around him, he made an error concerning the date of manufacture of a car and either didn't notice that he'd made it, or realised and hoped that no one else noticed it (I suspect it was most likely the former, that he didn't even realise he'd made an error).

However:

With all the time in the World, and without the additional pressure of being live on radio at the time, you've stated that the Mercedes mentioned was a 1977 Pagoda when in fact it was described on air as being a 1970 Pagoda.

(Try listening here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05vbrz3 @ 2:13:17 wink )

Based on this, I'm sure you can see how easy it is to make a mistake!

His 1967 XKSS, https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21907/lot/244 , not the real thing but one of the superb Lynx re-creations based on a 1967 E-Type.

My coat already having been collected, the belt is about to be used for self-flagellation purposes.

I've just checked - I had no idea the Pagoda was being produced as late as '71. I did see a Merc SL sans hardtop, so does that get me off the hook, since without the top it's no longer a Pagoda? laugh
