Hello all,

Rather than having money in the bank earning low interest I think it's time to finally fulfil my life-long dream and invest in a classic! The tough thing is that there are not that many models that fit my requirements.......

Here is my must-have criteria:

1) British
2) Convertible
3) Enough space in the back for two little kiddies
4) Up to a max of £20,000 but would prefer to spend around £15k
5) Gotta be some chrome and wood involved so probably nothing after 1980 - preferably 60's / 70's

My dream car is the Lotus Elan Plus 2 but unfortunately it's not a soft top, and I would also buy an MGB GT Roadster in a heartbeat if only it had 4 seats.

What do you think, people - would love to hear your ideas and experience of owning such a car.

Thanks!

Hillman Minx, Moggie minor Herald/Vitesse

Needs some work but you have plenty of budget http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C502516

A bit older and possibly in your budget http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C634285

a bit left field in the kit car side, quantum/Beauford etc?

I'd suggest an afternoon on car and classic working through all British ( or acceptable) makes to see what pops up that tickles yhour fancy

My fathers Elan +2 was converted to a cabriolet after he sold it and there are a few more conversions out there. What about the Scimitar GTC?

He did say space for kiddies and I dont think children care enough to be honest... they just think "woooooo.....sunshine.....no roof.....wooooo..... ."

I only read the title and thought "Stag".
It seems everyone thinks the same.

PS. Bond drives one in Diamonds are Forever, which is on ITV right now.

Hello there,

If you are interested, I know of a mint Lotus Élan +2 convertible with spider chassis, same owner for over 30 years, he also converted it from fhc.

He is my BIL.

Was the jensen-healey a 4 seater?

Other then that, I think all the bases have been covered. Very lefg field would be zlanx rover with acanvas top, or an obscure converted range rover.

Speaking of conversions...

I was very nearly born in the back of a Morgan 4/4 in Austria. Fortunately mother managed to cork me until we got to the blitzkriegzimmer.
