It's ok you can tell us, we're nosey buggers. Any gen you can find for the factory fitted AED replacement will be warmly welcomed BV.... the chap who worked on my S2 says some alternatives are not much cop so it'd be splendid if you can share your findings. Assuming you've bought the barge. Which may or may not have actually happened. Ahem, cough.
For my XK150 with a 4.2Engine and triple SUs I have the manual choke from an E-Type fitted, but only to the middle carb. It seems to work...ish.
Actually it would probably work fine if the starter motor had more welly.

Just bought an AED with the manual choke conversion fitted (E Bay £50) Once it's been overhauled and tested I'll report back.

I've also got a pair of HS8's with manual choke operation, not sure what they'd be off ? They need rebuilding though.

Thanks mph, duly noted. Haven't the foggiest what those HS8s are from...!

This might be a nice cheap addition to the fleet if you have a chap to do some work.

It's the car, not the van!
Charles de Gaulle, you are a very, very, very bad man. I wish, mon Général, that I could be like you and learn to say "Non".

Tant pis, eh bien - morte aux Anglaises!
Brilliant! Congratulations.
To offset the likely financial pain, I'll even waive the finder's fee!

Mon General,

You don't appear to have ever had a French car!?

Surely you need to look for a Renault 4/8/10/12/16, Citroen 2CV/DS and Peugeot 404/504 Coupe/604 to rival BV's collection of Britishness!

Mon dieu!

I formerly had a Talbot-Matra Murena, and that was mucho French. I would have a Citroen SM or a Pininfarina styled Peugeot coupe if I were not skinty.

I occasionally drove my ex wife's Peugeot 206 CC in order to unleash my inner crimpeur.

That's an interesting observation. My very first car was a 70s Renault 5, complete with dash-mounted gearstick, but I don't think I've ever owned anything French since then. I've been tempted by a few, but not enough to pay for one with my own money.

Some crazy stuff may be going down tomorrow morning. The AA has cancelled all leave for patrollers in the south of England, and oil refineries have been told to increase production of super plus unleaded. Brace for impact.

Stuff has happened.

Rough but fun - a wafty beast, collected this morning in Bristol, driven along the M4 with a couple of idiocy induced incidents (from which the car recovered) and now at a storage place in London pending doing uppage. I will write it up on a thread in due course.

Almost certainly a Rover 2000 TC. I just fitted a pair to an early Series 1 4.2 XJ. All you have to do is wire up a choke cable and use the needles from the original carbs.

Beautiful looking car. I'm sure that when my Dad had one in the 70s they were quite big, yours seems to have shrunk.

Very nice addition.

Out of interest, does your wife make comment when another vehicle joins the fleet? Mine would be unimpressed!

They were big cars back in the day, but as you say, look tiny now in comparison to everyday modern motors.

Why has glass area in cars got smaller? Safety stuff in doors? Fashion? That Evoque thing, I am surprised anyone can see out of it. Was in a two lane queue last year and the bloke driving the one next to us had a door mirror the same size as his head!

Lovely looking Daimler this one ...
