This ad has caught the eye of a fiend of mine. Other than the fact that is is being advertised by an Ebay seller with no feedback any views as to originality and value?

I see nothing wrong with the car nor the advert. Price seems about right for a low mileage and what appears to be a very good XJC. Ignore the eBay score and go and see the car; then make an offer.

Mention how disappointed you are that the interior isn't leather and get a few quid knocked off the asking price . . . wink

Should it not have a vinyl roof, my understanding was that all the normal production cars came with them. Other than that and being really picky, the wheels it looks great.

All had vinyl roofs, yes. Not that uncommon for restored cars to go without though.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that the vinyl roof was not just cosmetic but was to hide the stress cracks that were expected to develop on the roof

I had one new. The second worst car I ever owned. Reliability was very poor, as was build quality.
Guess this one will have had the problems resolved by now.

There are a few anomalies in the advert that I'd want cleared up but otherwise it does look a nice car.

The mileage in 1984 is 36,810 according to the service book. The next recorded mileage is in 2006 at 42,709. There's no mention of what happened in the intervening 22 years ! I'd want documentation to support the mileage.

The car received a glass out repaint in 2009 and then received " significant attention ... to all outstanding corrosion issues in 2010 " Doesn't make sense really.

Assuming that the above can be verified I'd say the car is worth a look.

Given that many coupes have now had the vinyl roofs removed I'd say the myth of roof problems is exactly that.

Mine is having a full repaint after some rectification work to the rear wheel arches.

They really are lovely cars but built at a time when Jaguar quality was at an all time low thanks to good old BL.

The chap doing my paintwork used to work at a BL dealership when these cars were current. I've told him I'm confident he can get the door gaps just right i.e uneven and recreate the orange peel effect. Luckily he has a sense of humour.

They are definitely appreciating and a good one is worth having.

You need to choose your fiends carefully...

My uncle had a new XJC in the day with cloth upholstery, which I thought was a bit odd at the time.

Well they expected the AC to pack up and then in hotter climates the leather seats would get very sweaty so they went for cloth seats biglaugh

If youve been following these coupes,as in todays market the cloth trim makes them even more disirable as most people went for leather back in the day,its a funny old world this classic car market. as for the worst car that some body has mentioned man you need to get head examand, yes most BL cars back then had problems as for the coupe well theres not many good ones left now.I like mine.v12 manual.

That looks a beauty, for me the Kent alloys are the icing on the cake... cloud9

The two chaps who recently did some work on my S2 XJ6 each have a Coupe, they're not normally this dusty and do see the light of day sometimes... the blue one is a V12...

I'm almost certain that leather trim was standard and cloth an option. It wasn't any cheaper, strange as that may seem.

Cloth interiors seem quite common in the coupes, not sure why that should be.

My car has a red cloth interior and it is very comfortable I have to say. I have a set of Kent alloys which I'll be fitting once it's back from the paint shop.

Beautiful mph, just beautiful!

How do you get on with those doors mirrors..? My car has them, fitted by the previous owner and I struggle to see much in either of them.

To be honest I've hardly had chance to use the car since I bought it and the NS mirror was incorrectly positioned.

The car is currently in the paint shop having a full repaint as it had some micro-blistering when I bought it.

I won't bore you with the history but the previous owner had it rebuilt in the late 1980's using a new body shell and it's been stored in a heated garage ever since so is in excellent structural condition.

It's not boring at all, I love hearing about the history of these cars. My XJ has about 90% of it's history in the file that came with it but a couple of gaps need filling which I'm following up. Built in October '73 it left Browns Lane in January '74 and went to a dealer in Belfast where it was PDI'd before being shipped to Dumfries a few weeks later, it was then registered there on 1st March '74. I'd love to know why it was sent to Northern Ireland, I suppose it could have been a cancelled order that was then diverted to Scotland.

The interior of your Coupe is fantastic, I wish my dash looked that fresh - I'm told it's not that difficult to remove it to refurbish the wood but I haven't plucked up the gumption to have a go yet, besides I've been driving it quite a lot recently so haven't had the time. I spent this afternoon trying to clean up the leather seats using various hide cleaners but I think I'll be better off getting them done properly, there are two Jag interior specialists not far from where I live which helps.

Another couple of shots of the V12 Coupe I posted yesterday...

If that's yours I'm supremely envious! Double 6 in Squadron Blue with Kent alloys is my perfect Coupe. Superb!
