Which car to buy and tuck away? Audi TT Mk1 or Boxster Mk1

A mint early silver or battleship grey TT coupe 225 with the dark tan baseball glove seats has got to be relatively safe bet in the long term.
The tan Baseball Glove Leather and the dark 'Nimbus Grey' paint were options only available on a Roadster. The Coupe was instead offered in light 'Arrow Grey', but no tan Baseball Glove Leather option.Edited by kmpowell on Thursday 15th October 16:03

I'm becoming more and more convinced that, if you want to lay a Boxster down in your wine cellar for a few years, the 2.5 is the one to go for!
Why? Well first, rarity. It was only made for a couple of years before being replaced by the 2.7, also the 3.2S was introduced, which is the one everybody wants. (Well, me anyway.) And the 2.7 is the compromise for those who can't quite run to an S.
But the poor old 2.5 is unloved. One can be picked up for as little as 3 grand now, frequently less. This means that in a few years we are going to see more and more of them scrapped as repairs and replacements (don't forget the dreaded IMS) begin to cost more than the car is worth. In other words the situation the Mk 1 MX-5 is in now; it's easier to cut your losses, scrap the car, sell the useable bits, and start again.
My advice would be to take your 5 grand and buy a tidy, low-mileage, unmolested 2.5. There are still a few out there:

(On the other hand I've never had the first clue about how to make money, so perhaps my advice should be, don't take my advice!)

I just added this to the "for sale" section if you are interested... Low miles, full-fat, £6k

I would not be buying either for making money in 5 years,
I have had a Boxster S, would not touch amother, check my profile....
BUT I love the original TT, would have to buy one in silver, 225, black leather, no rear spoiler and the best I could afford. Just like the pure motor show concept car. An original one of those should go up in value, but not for at least 10 years I reckon, way too many left.

Ha ha ha if you want to make money on a 3 - £5k Boxster just make sure you dont put that key anywhere near the ignition barrel during your ownership, as if you do the running costs will negate any profit!!Why? Why did you skin the discs (wheeler dealer style) over replacing with new items?
Was it the 350BhP version you had?
How about an E21 315?
Imported version and only going one way IMO.
Most decent 316/320/323i are nearer £10k now.

Good shout on the E30 as well.
I think good GTI's will always command strong money, both the MK1 and MK2.
The 'scene' is still going strong and owners are graduating from uni/college students/apprentices with little money to full time wall paid owners who can afford to spend more.

From what I've read on this thread, and elsewhere, it would seem that early Boxsters have a way to go yet, in a way, it's (as the recently departed Yogi Berra would say) deja vu all over again, as when I bought my 944 in 2001, I paid 5 grand which is about the average price for an early Boxster now. When I sold the 944 after 3 years I lost a grand, indeed 944s went right down to 2 grand before recovering. Perhaps the 986 might do that also.

I've often thought about replacing my Clio cup with a boxster but did fear it might feel boring after the cup.
Other possibilities are 350z, z4 or head back to a wrx or sti

All I would say is go and drive a Boxster and then make up your own mind! I've often thought about replacing my Clio cup with a boxster but did fear it might feel boring after the cup.

And to be fair, I'd like to drive a C-Cup
I've done the Sti (PPP Prodrive Edition bug eye) and thought it felt slow, plus it spun a big end = rattle and ended up fitting a new engine..,before the 6spd box went crunchy from 2nd to 3rd... I'll have another at some point as I love the engine sound although will go classic 2dr.
But TT vs Boxster, for me it's Boxster hands down.

Id of thought the still would of felt much faster than the boxster with a o-60 of 5.2 compared to 6.3 in the boxster. And to be fair, I'd like to drive a C-Cup

Even the cup does it in 6.6 although I'd be reving the nuts of it due to lack of torque.
