Mk2 Jag is definitely a good shout. And there is a £15k Interceptor just down the road from me on carandclassic but no doubt it would be a moneypit hehe
I've just had a look at the £15k Interceptors on there - tempting certainly, but I'd start looking at Mk2 Jags instead...! Plenty to be had on carandclassic and I wouldn't dismiss a nice Daimler V8 / 250 either...

If you're going to the NEC Classic Show next weekend you might find something suitable for sale there. Last year there were quite a few '60s and '70s Jags on offer in the £15-20k bracket.

If it is not going to be a pub car you will need something reliable so how about this?

But then you have a TVR. Silly me.

OK so it's not British, but how about a Bertone Alfa GTV?

Such beautiful looking coupes and though the example below is slightly over budget, I'm sure you can get a good one under £20k.

Again, not British but certainly it will be just as unreliable and has a propensity to rust just as if it was from the West Midlands

Wow some great suggestions, had not thought much about Alfa or Lancia but those are lovely.

Lowdrag - The TVR has been amazingly reliable over the 25,000 miles I have done in it and has never needed recovery, but I don't think I could sell it for that Mercedes to be honest.

So over the next few months I have some soul searching to do. I have a bit of extra money coming in and am debating between upgrading my Chimaera or selling up and putting the money towards a different car. Im not interested in moderns and was wondering what you would do with a theoretical £20k (ish) to spend on a car?

No real criteria tbh, i like British cars but nothing is a deal breaker. An e-type or Interceptor would be the dream but obviously out of budget hehe

What would tempt you away from TVR?
NO Brainer.

Everything a Chim could never be.

A PRE CAT GRIFF !!! drivinglaugh

Oh, almost forgot ... it was also awarded The Design Council Award .... As was the E Type

Always had a soft spot for a MGA myself. Prices like a lot of classics only going one way.

That's beautiful..... Hope to have one ......some time!

Carrying on the Italian theme, how about an Alfa Spider? The series 2 kamm tail one ? This ones not bad, although not keen on silver personally.

I was tossing up between a Spider and a 90s Griffith... Went for the Spider. Glad I did, I wanted something older for the 'classic' experience and with carbs. Guess I enjoy the whole drama of pumping the pedal before starting and taking a couple of goes to get it started etc! Love the Griffith but just felt it was a bit more midlife crisis because of all that noise!

I'd probably let my Alfa go for not much over £20K. So that's where my money would go.
