Looks like a bad Photoshop - the taxi is too small.

So I leafed through about 10,000 pages of 1959/1960/1961 Autocar in Haymarket's archive the other day, hoping I'd spot it in a tiny classified somewhere perhaps, but still no joy.
I think 1962 is more likely. Off you go. smile

Seen his interpretation of the Anglia, shocking. Looks more like a Bond microcar!

So, what sort of taxi is it?

Not a very good representation of an Austin FX3 is my best guess.

Yes, I think it is an FX3 but 2 door handles on the near side places it as a 'private hire' car and not a taxi AIRC.

Interesting the way the buses have turned into Routemasters. I'm also puzzled as to why he would replace the 'mystery car' - maybe a black cab reinforces the fact it is London, as if a herd of Routemasters doesn't do this already!

However, let's not be too harsh about the painting, I couldn't do it.

It's a commission and the client wanted that model of bus and a taxi to be seen.

Interesting! Yet ,as you say, weird.

Mr Trickett has no idea of perspective that's for sure!
Perspective.. hmm...

Look at this ship - it has an odd shaped bow.

Since he obviously works from photographs, rather than his own sketches, it takes effort to distort the perspective which the camera has sorted out. In the case of the buses/taxi it wasn't one photo of course, but that picture of SS Pioneer. . .

He posted this explanation of the buses and taxi picture:
. . . yes indeed, after chasing through countless magazines and books the photo you mention became the base for this scene turning it into evening rather than probably morning, changing the RT's to RM's adding people in different places, removing one set of lights as it would distract from the buses , adding the old Austin Taxi as the client requested both Routemasters and old taxi. Its often the case with transport art, you seek ,find but make your own interpretation of an old photo, i have done this on many occasion so not taking anyone else's copyright as it becomes a totally different image.

I'm not knocking the guy, believe me. He obviously has some talent as far as putting oil on canvas. But if you're going to do something like this, you should have the basics covered!

I don't suppose you clocked whether it was front or rear-engined did you?

Didn't Ogle or someone similar do a one off body on a daimler dart chassis, those hubcaps look v similar to the ones on my old dart. It looked a bit like a fairthorpe electron

We went through the wheel discs similar to Daimler bit some time ago and they are similar but different. The Ogle Daimler body was quite similar to the Reliant Scimitar Coupé which was developed from it, so nowt like the puzzle car. And both Daimlers had wire wheels . . .
